The long-awaited Mahindra Thar 5-door lifestyle SUV will finally make its way to our market in August 2024. The Thar 5-door has been caught testing several times on the Indian roads. Going by the spy images, it is visible that the SUV will grow in size and will have more space inside the cabin. The SUV will have a longer wheelbase and length to create bigger boot space and add doors to access second-row seats. In fact, the upcoming model will receive more features than its 3-door sibling.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door: Key Features
The upcoming Thar 5-door will be packed with many features that the 3-door version lacks. Some of the noteworthy features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a dashcam with front & rear monitoring functions, individual armrests for both driver & front passenger, rear air conditioning vents, a single-pane sunroof, leatherette seat upholstery, and rear centre armrest. Safety-wise, it will be offered with six airbags and a suite of ADAS features.
Powertrain Options
The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door will come equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel motor. These are the same powertrain options offered in the 3-door version. Both engine units will be mated with manual and automatic transmission. Further, it will offer a choice of 4-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive.
The SUV is reported to be based on the ScorpioN’s platform. Not just the platform, the SUV is also likely to share its suspension setup with the Scorpio. Moreover, the engines will be tuned for higher power outputs.
Launch and Price
The new model is scheduled to make its public debut on August 15, 2024. A possible launch around the festive season can’t be ignored. Expect it to be priced at around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). As for the rivals, it will compete with the recently launched Force Gurkha 5-door.
