7-Seater Toyota Electric MPV for India - Launch and Other Details

Toyota to launch a new 7-seater electric MPV by 2027-28 Based on eHeartech platform To rival BYD eMAX7 and Kia Carens Clavis EV

Toyota is ready to announce the prices of the EBella, which is the brand’s first-ever electric SUV for the Indian market. Post this electric SUV, Toyota will bring its second electric vehicle in the form of a dedicated 7-seater MPV. It will be developed in close collaboration with Maruti Suzuki (Codenamed YMC). This electric MPV will be sold alongside the Innova Hycross hybrid, which will also receive a mid-life update along with a lower-spec model.

Toyota MPV: eHeartech & Range

The new Toyota electric MPV will sit on the eHeartech platform, which is a dedicated EV skateboard architecture shared with the e Vitara. This is a flexible architecture, which will allow the company to stretch its wheelbase to maximise third-row legroom.

- Battery Specs: It is expected to feature the same 61kWh battery pack found in the higher trims of the e Vitara and Toyota EBella. The company will aim to target a range of approximately 500km on a single charge. It is expected that the battery pack and motor will be further improved to offer greater efficiency.

- FWD Only: the e Vitara and EBella are offered with both FWD and AWD drivetrains. However, the MPV will likely prioritise efficiency with a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) setup. It will get a front-axle-mounted electric motor.

- Export: India will be the primary manufacturing hub for the upcoming electric MPV; however, Toyota could export the new MPV to select markets in Southeast Asia and Europe.

Launch and Competition

The new Toyota electric MPV will take on the likes of the Kia Carens Clavis EV, BYD eMAX7, VinFast VF MPV 7 and the upcoming Maruti YMC. It is expected to be launched sometime in late 2027 or early 2028.

Toyota’s Broader Roadmap: ICE, Hybrids, and EVs

Toyota will introduce a wide range of Internal Combustion and hybrid models in the Indian market. The company will continue to position itself as a premium brand. Here is a list of upcoming Toyota cars in the country in the next couple of years -
