Honda India to Launch New 7-Seater SUV and Sub-4m Nexon Rival

Honda Cars India to launch two new SUVs on PF2 Modular Platform India launch expected in 2027-28

Honda Cars India is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the Indian market. The company will soon introduce the updated Elevate and the 0 Alpha electric SUV. Adding to it, Honda is also developing an all-new sub-4 metre compact SUV alongside a new flagship 3-row 7-seater SUV. These two models will be built on the brand’s new platform, rumoured to be PF2 modular architecture.

Key Details of Honda’s Two Upcoming SUVs

PF2 Modular Architecture: if reports are to be believed, the PF2 is a flexible, hybrid-ready platform that is roughly 90 kg lighter than the existing architecture. This platform is compatible with naturally-aspirated petrol, strong hybrid, and battery-electric (BEV) powertrains. Moreover, the platform is flexible enough to accommodate different sizes, starting from a sub-4 meter SUV to a 4.6-4.7meter long 7-seater SUV.

Sub-4m SUV (Tata Nexon Rival): Scheduled to be launched by 2028, the compact SUV will be Honda’s successor to the discontinued WR-V. This SUV will be designed and developed explicitly for local market; however, Honda could also export this SUV to select international markets. It is expected to be powered by a 1.2L naturally-aspirated i-VTEC petrol engine paired with a 5-speed MT and CVT options. The SUV could also get hybrid and EV variants.

7-Seater SUV: Expected to be launched in late 2027 or early 2028, the new Honda 7-seater SUV will directly rival the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV. It is likely to be offered with 6- and 7-seat configuration with former having captain seats in the second-row. The SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and an e:HEV dual-motor strong hybrid system capable of delivering over 25km/l fuel economy.

Honda’s 10 Model Lineup: Honda Cars India is set to introduce 10 new models in India by 2030. Out of these 30 models, 7 vehicles will be concentrated in the high-growth SUV segment.
