Honda’s Nexon & Brezza Rival SUV Confirmed – Launch Timeline & Details

Honda confirms new sub-4 metre SUV launch for 2028. New SUV could be offered with petrol and electric powertrain options.

Honda Cars India is set to make a major comeback with a long-term strategy that includes launching 10 new products by 2030. The upcoming lineup will feature the Honda ZR-V, new 0 Alpha electric SUV, Elevate facelift, a subcompact SUV, a three-row SUV, next-generation City Prologue performance coupe, and hybrid versions of the global Honda’s SUVs. To support this aggressive product plan, Honda will also expand its manufacturing facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan.

At its latest global financial results press conference, Honda confirmed a new sub-4 metre SUV for India, which is slated to arrive in 2028. Following the discontinuation of the Honda WR-V, it will be the brand’s second attempt in the highly competitive subcompact SUV segment.

Official Confirmation

While Honda hasn’t yet revealed specific product details, it confirmed that the new subcompact SUV will be designed and developed specifically for the Indian market. Toshihiro Mibe, the Director, President and Representative Executive Officer at Honda, said, “We will develop specifications that fully match the market conditions and customer needs in India.” He further added that this will help the brand achieve an optimal balance between performance and pricing.

New Honda Sub-4 SUV – What to Expect?

The upcoming Honda subcompact SUV could be offered with multiple powertrain options including petrol and electric. The carmaker might use the 1.2L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine from the Amaze, where it produces power worth 88.8bhp and 110Nm of torque.

When launched, the new Honda subcompact SUV will go head-to-head against the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Skoda Kyalq and Mahindra XUV 3XO. It’s prices and positioning are also expected to overlap with the upcoming Mahindra Vision S, Tata Scarlet and Renault Bridger rugged lifestyle subcompact SUVs.

Honda’s All-New P2 Platform

Honda is developing a modular platform, codenamed PF2, for its future small and midsize models. Several P2-based Honda cars will make their way to India. According to reports, Honda’s upcoming three-row SUV, next-gen City and a subcompact SUV are expected to be underpinned by the P2 platform. The P2 will be a hybrid-ready architecture and is claimed to be around 90kg lighter than Honda’s existing hybrid platform.
