Maruti Suzuki Flex-Fuel Wagon R Ready for Launch in 2026

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its first flex-fuel vehicle, the Wagon R, in India by early 2026. This move is an important step towards the brand’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality in the country.

What Are Flex-Fuel Vehicles?

Flex-fuel vehicles can run on different types of fuel blends, including ethanol. They can use mixes of ethanol and petrol, from E20 (20% ethanol) to E85 (85% ethanol). These cars are cleaner and more eco-friendly compared to traditional petrol engines.

Production of Flex-Fuel Wagon R Begins Soon

Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Maruti Suzuki’s parent company, will begin making flex-fuel vehicles soon. The Wagon R will be the first car from Maruti Suzuki to feature this technology. The launch is expected before the end of the current fiscal year and is part of the brand’s plan to reduce carbon emissions in India.

Features of the Wagon R Flex-Fuel

Maruti Suzuki showed a prototype of the Wagon R flex-fuel at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The car looks the same as the current model but can run on petrol-ethanol blends. This will cut down tailpipe emissions by up to 79% when using E85 fuel.

Even with lower emissions, Maruti Suzuki assures that the Wagon R flex-fuel will perform just like the petrol-only version, offering the same power and driving experience.

The Future of Maruti Suzuki’s Flex-Fuel Vehicles

The launch of the Wagon R flex-fuel is just the beginning. Maruti Suzuki plans to expand its range of flex-fuel cars in the future. The company is also working to make all its models compatible with E20 fuel and is focusing on developing vehicles that can use up to 85% bioethanol.
