Maruti Y43 micro SUV to compete with Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. Powered by a 1.2L petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. Packed with premium features like a sunroof, 360-degree camera, and more.
After impressing the market with the launch of the Victoris SUV, Maruti Suzuki is now focusing on the micro SUV segment. The brand is gearing up for the launch of a new micro suv which is codenamed Y43, expected to hit the Indian market in 2026-2027. It will compete with models like the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch.
Maruti Y43 is expected to come equipped with a 1.2L, 3-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine, likely featuring mild hybrid technology. This engine is already used in the Swift and is expected to produce 80 bhp and 112 Nm of torque. Transmission options are anticipated to include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT, offering a smooth driving experience.
Maruti Y43 is likely to come loaded with several modern features:
- Ventilated seats
- Sunroof
- A 360-degree camera
- Flat-bottom steering wheel
- Automatic climate control
- A fully digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system
- Multiple airbags
Maruti Y43 is expected to appeal primarily to first-time car buyers looking for a compact SUV with a high ground clearance. Maruti Suzuki aims to capture this growing segment, especially as small SUVs become increasingly popular in India. The Y43 is set to offer a perfect blend of features, size, and practicality for urban buyers.
Maruti Suzuki anticipates strong sales for the Y43, with an expected 2.5 lakh units sold annually. The micro SUV is expected to be available through Maruti's NEXA premium dealerships, positioning it as a more premium offering in the small SUV category.
The Y43 is expected to be based on Suzuki's HEARTECT platform, which underpins models like the Swift and Dzire. This platform is known for its safety, reliability, and performance, making it ideal for a compact SUV like the Y43.
Additionally, the Y43 could feature Suzuki's in-house developed hybrid powertrain, which will first debut in the Maruti Suzuki Fronx facelift. This hybrid engine is expected to use the petrol engine as a generator to power an electric motor, enhancing fuel efficiency.
In addition to the Y43, Maruti Suzuki is also planning to launch a 7-seater SUV based on the Grand Vitara and an electric version called the e-Vitara. These new models highlight Maruti's commitment to expanding its SUV and electric vehicle offerings in India.
The Y43 micro SUV is set to be a key part of Maruti's strategy to dominate the small SUV segment, offering more choices for Indian buyers looking for compact, affordable, and feature-rich vehicles.
