Maruti Micro SUV Rival Tata Punch in the Works
The Maruti micro SUV rival Tata Punch is likely to be positioned as the brand’s new entry-level offering. It may also take over the role once held by small cars like the Alto and M800.
Buyers today are moving towards SUV-style vehicles, even at lower price points. Maruti has also seen its SUV share grow from 16.8 percent to 19.6 percent in FY26, which clearly shows where the demand is heading.

Maruti has confirmed that the new Maruti micro SUV will come with:
- Petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech
- CNG/CBG option
- Fully electric version
This makes it a very flexible option, suitable for both budget buyers and those looking for eco-friendly choices.
SUV Styling With Feature-Rich Cabin
The new micro SUV is expected to feature a tall, upright stance with a proper SUV look. Buyers can also expect a feature-loaded cabin, which is becoming a key demand in this segment.

Will Co-Exist With Swift
Interestingly, this new SUV is not expected to replace the Maruti Swift. Instead, both models are likely to be sold together, much like how the Maruti Baleno and Maruti Fronx co-exist.
Even though hatchback demand is slowing, the Swift remains one of Maruti’s strongest brands and will continue in the lineup.
Pricing Strategy Will Be Key
The current Tata Punch range starts from around Rs 5.60 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.50 lakh for petrol models, while the EV version is priced higher.
Maruti is expected to price its Tata Punch rival very competitively. If the company manages to undercut the Punch by even Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000, it could attract a large number of buyers.
