New BMW M3 Electric Revealed With Four Motors and 800V Tech

New BMW M3 electric revealed in near-production form Expected to get four electric motors and 800V architecture M3 electric to be built at BMW’s Munich plant from 2027

BMW has revealed a near-production version of the upcoming M3 electric, giving us the first clear look at the brand’s next-generation electric performance sedan. The model has been shown in camouflage, but several production-spec design details are visible. The fully electric M3 will be part of BMW’s Neue Klasse family and will be built at the company’s Munich plant. It will follow the fully electric i3 as the second Neue Klasse model to be produced at the facility.

BMW M3 Electric Design

The upcoming M3 electric gets several styling elements inspired by the latest 3 Series. At the front, it features BMW’s new kidney grille design, flanked by angular LED lighting signatures. The lower section of the bumper is more aggressive, with prominent aerodynamic elements and vertically stacked cube-shaped LEDs. The bonnet also gets a noticeable power bulge, giving the electric M3 a sportier appearance.

The production model uses more conventional ORVMs than the M Neue Klasse concept. The all-black alloy wheels remain similar to those seen on the concept, although the centre cap design has been changed. At the rear, the M3 electric gets a boot-lid spoiler and cube-shaped elements integrated into the bumper. The overall design remains close to BMW’s current M styling while adding dedicated aerodynamic elements for the electric powertrain.

BMW M3 Electric Interior

BMW has not revealed the production-spec interior yet, but the cabin is expected to take inspiration from the M Neue Klasse concept. The concept featured a wide digital display positioned along the base of the windscreen, a sporty steering wheel with red highlights and BMW M branding, and a floating infotainment screen. The centre console featured a red toggle-style drive selector with M branding. The production car could also get sporty bucket seats with a two-tone M finish, along with M logos and graphics across the seats and digital displays.

Four-Motor Electric Powertrain

The biggest highlight of the new BMW M3 electric will be its four-motor setup. BMW has indicated that the production model could use four electric motors, with one motor powering each wheel. This setup will form part of the brand’s new M eDrive system. Having an individual motor for each wheel allows BMW to control power delivery and braking at each wheel separately, which should help improve traction, handling and cornering performance. The system will also use BMW’s new ‘Heart of Joy’ control unit and M Dynamic Performance Control software.

800V Architecture and 100kWh+ Battery

The electric M3 is expected to use an 800V electrical architecture, which should allow for faster charging compared to lower-voltage systems. BMW has said the M Neue Klasse concept used an M-specific version of its sixth-generation cylindrical battery cells with a capacity of more than 100kWh. Similar technology is expected to feature in the production M3 electric. However, BMW has not yet revealed the final battery capacity, power output, range or charging figures of the production model.

BMW M3 Electric Production

The new M3 electric will be produced at BMW’s Munich plant. The company is investing around EUR 650 million to prepare the facility for the production of fully electric models. The investment includes modernising production structures, adding digital systems and improving cooperation between BMW’s manufacturing, development and supplier teams.

BMW says the Munich facility will only produce electric vehicles from 2027 onwards. The M3 electric will therefore become one of the key performance models produced at the plant as BMW expands its Neue Klasse EV range. The production version of the M3 electric is expected to combine BMW M’s performance technology with the Neue Klasse electric platform, making it one of the brand’s most important electric performance models.
