New BMW M350 xDrive will produce 443 hp and 580 Nm. The performance sedan will get a 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild-hybrid engine. A new Drift Moment function will enable rear-wheel-drive oversteer.
BMW has entered the final phase of development for the next-generation 3 Series with an internal combustion engine. Camouflaged prototypes are currently undergoing the last round of driving dynamics testing before production begins. The new petrol-powered 3 Series will be sold alongside the fully electric BMW i3. The ICE range will continue with four- and six-cylinder petrol engines, all expected to feature 48V mild-hybrid technology.
BMW M350 xDrive to Lead the Range
The headline variant of the new 3 Series range will be the M350 xDrive. It will be the only version in the line-up to get a six-cylinder engine. The M350 xDrive will use a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The powertrain produces 443 hp and 580 Nm of torque. Power will be sent to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic gearbox. BMW claims a 0-100kph acceleration time of just 4.1 seconds, while the top speed will be electronically limited to 250kph.

M Performance Hardware as Standard
BMW will equip the M350 xDrive with several performance-focused upgrades as standard. These will include adaptive M suspension, an M Sport differential and variable sport steering. The combination is expected to give the new 3 Series sharper handling while maintaining the everyday usability associated with the model.
New BMW 3 Series Gets Drift Moment Function
One of the more unusual features planned for the next-generation 3 Series is BMW's new 'Drift Moment' function. The system allows the driver to send engine power entirely to the rear wheels. It is designed to enable controlled oversteer when the stability control system is switched off. This feature is expected to add a more engaging driving experience to the performance-focused M350 xDrive.
Production to Start in 2026
The new ICE-powered BMW 3 Series is scheduled to enter production in the second half of 2026. The petrol-powered model will sit alongside the electric i3 as BMW continues to offer different powertrain options in the 3 Series family. BMW has not yet revealed the complete engine line-up or confirmed specifications for all variants. The company has also not announced launch timelines for individual markets. Since the cars are still in the prototype testing phase, official WLTP fuel-efficiency figures have not been released yet.
