BMW M3 Touring Race Version Revealed – All Details

BMW turns April Fool’s M3 Touring into a real race car. Packs 590hp engine from M4 GT3 EVO for track action. Set to debut at Nürburgring 2026 in SPX class.

BMW has officially revealed the M3 Touring 24H race car ahead of its debut at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring 2026. Interestingly, what started as an April Fool’s concept in 2025 has now turned into a real race car in less than a year.

The idea gained massive attention online, pushing BMW to turn it into a proper motorsport project.

From Concept to Reality in Just Months

BMW had first shown an “in-development” version of the M3 Touring racer on April 1, 2025. After seeing strong fan reactions, the brand decided to build it for real in mid-2025.

In around 8 months, the project moved from a joke concept to a fully functional race car ready for the track.

Set for Nurburgring Race Debut

The M3 Touring 24H will make its racing debut at the Nürburgring endurance series. It will compete in the SPX class and will be the only estate body style car in this year’s grid.

The car will be run by Schubert Motorsport and driven by BMW M works drivers Jens Klingmann, Ugo de Wilde, Connor De Phillippi and Neil Verhagen.

Race-Ready Design with Aggressive Look

The race-spec version is based on the road-going M3 Touring but gets several changes for track use. It is longer and slightly taller compared to the BMW M4 GT3 EVO.

The design looks aggressive with large carbon fibre parts like a front splitter, rear wing and bumper. It also gets an illuminated kidney grille and 18-inch wheels with racing tyres.

The current version features a black theme with fan comments printed on the body, but BMW will introduce a new race livery before the event.

Powerful Engine from M4 GT3 EVO

Powering the M3 Touring 24H is a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine borrowed from the BMW M4 GT3 EVO.

This engine produces up to 590hp and is paired with a 6-speed sequential gearbox. Power is sent to the rear wheels, keeping the classic BMW driving feel intact.

The braking setup includes large racing discs and multi-piston calipers for better stopping power on the track.

A Unique Project for BMW Motorsport

This is the first time BMW has built a touring (estate) race car for endurance racing at this level.

According to Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport, this project is something very special for the brand and its fans, especially at Nürburgring, which BMW considers its second home.

With a mix of bold design, strong performance and a unique concept, the BMW M3 Touring 24H is set to be one of the most interesting cars to watch at the 2026 Nürburgring race.
