BMW M2 AWD launch confirmed for India. Gets a 480 hp turbo-petrol engine with AWD. Offers quicker acceleration than the RWD model.
BMW India has confirmed that the BMW M2 M xDrive will be launched in the Indian market. The new model adds all-wheel drive to the popular performance coupe, making it quicker and offering more grip than the current rear-wheel-drive version. While BMW has not announced an exact launch date yet, the M2 AWD is expected to join the existing M2 lineup soon.
The BMW M2 AWD is powered by a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 480 hp and 600 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission, while BMW's M xDrive all-wheel-drive system sends power to all four wheels. The setup is rear-wheel-drive biased and automatically transfers power to the front wheels when extra traction is needed.
BMW says the M2 AWD can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.7 seconds, making it 0.3 seconds faster than the rear-wheel-drive model. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph, while the optional M Driver's Package increases it to 285 kmph.

The M2 AWD comes with three selectable drivetrain modes. Drivers can choose between 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD depending on driving conditions. The 2WD mode turns off the stability control system, allowing the car to deliver a pure rear-wheel-drive driving experience. The coupe also gets BMW's Active M Differential, which helps improve traction during hard acceleration and while cornering.
The all-wheel-drive M2 looks almost identical to the standard model. It continues with its muscular coupe styling, LED headlamps, wide wheel arches and staggered alloy wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. BMW has also introduced a new Borusan Turkish Blue exterior colour, which is available on the M2 for the first time.
Inside, the layout remains unchanged. The M2 AWD features a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, M Sport seats and a curved display setup. The biggest update is a new drivetrain menu that lets drivers switch between the different AWD modes.
BMW has confirmed the India launch of the M2 AWD but has not revealed its price yet. The current rear-wheel-drive BMW M2 starts at Rs. 1.06 crore (ex-showroom), and the all-wheel-drive version is expected to carry a premium over it. With more traction, quicker acceleration and the flexibility of AWD, the new BMW M2 M xDrive will offer another option for enthusiasts looking for a high-performance sports coupe.
