BMW will launch the next-generation X5 in India with a long wheelbase. The SUV is expected to get a new design, modern cabin and multiple powertrain options. India launch is likely in the second half of 2027.

BMW is getting ready to introduce the next-generation X5, and India is set to receive a long wheelbase (LWB) version of the luxury SUV. According to our sources, the upcoming X5 will arrive with more rear-seat space, a completely new design and an upgraded cabin packed with the latest technology.

While the global debut is expected soon, the India launch is still some time away.

Long Wheelbase Version Confirmed For India

BMW has seen strong demand for its long wheelbase models in India. The 3 Series LWB, 5 Series LWB and iX1 LWB have been well received, especially among buyers who prefer extra comfort in the second row.

The company is expected to follow the same strategy with the next-generation X5. India will get the China-spec long wheelbase version, which is designed to offer more legroom and a more comfortable rear-seat experience than the standard model.

Fresh Design Inside And Out

The new X5 will be one of the first petrol and diesel BMW models to adopt the brand's Neue Klasse design language.

Leaked images suggest the SUV will feature a completely redesigned front with slim headlamps and illuminated kidney grilles. At the rear, it is expected to get sleek LED tail-lamps and a sporty sloping roofline.

Inside, BMW is likely to introduce a new dashboard with a large central touchscreen, the brand's Panoramic Vision display stretching across the dashboard, and a new four-spoke steering wheel. The cabin is expected to look cleaner, more modern and more technology-focused than the current model.

Engine Options

BMW is expected to offer the next-generation X5 with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The SUV will also have an all-electric sibling called the iX5, which is expected to feature the biggest battery pack ever used in a BMW electric vehicle.

The exact powertrain options for India will be announced closer to the launch.

When Will It Launch In India?

The next-generation BMW X5 is expected to make its global debut soon, with the all-electric iX5 arriving first. Since the long wheelbase version is being developed separately for China, Indian buyers will have to wait a little longer.

At present, the luxury SUV is expected to arrive in India during the second half of 2027. Before that, BMW plans to strengthen its LWB portfolio further with the launch of the i5 LWB later this year, followed by the iX3 LWB in 2027.
