Freelander SUV revived as a premium electric model EV, PHEV, and range-extender variants announced India launch likely, details still unconfirmed
Jaguar Land Rover, in partnership with Chery, has revived the Freelander SUV as part of its premium electric lineup. The SUV brings electric, hybrid, and range-extender options, making it a versatile choice for modern drivers.
The revived Freelander is primarily targeted at the Chinese market, with a global debut planned for late 2026. International versions are being developed to meet local regulations and preferences, with Europe already seeing test drives and real-world trials.

The SUV is built on a modern 800V electric platform, supporting multiple powertrain options:
This flexibility allows the SUV to cater to different markets and customer needs.
The design takes inspiration from the Freelander 97 concept, keeping a muscular stance and distinctive styling. Some extreme concept features, like pillarless doors, have been moderated for practicality and safety.
Inside, the SUV is expected to offer modern amenities, including advanced infotainment and premium materials, reflecting its premium electric positioning.
Production will take place in Changshu, China, replacing outgoing models like the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque. The Freelander name carries a strong legacy for versatility and off-road performance, which the new SUV aims to continue.
While there is no official confirmation yet, an India launch is highly probable. The Freelander nameplate is already well-known among Indian buyers, and the growing demand for electric and hybrid SUVs makes the market attractive. However, Jaguar Land Rover is likely to wait for proper infrastructure and regulatory compliance before bringing it to India.
