New Maruti Y43 Micro SUV is Coming to Replace Ignis

Maruti Suzuki to launch Y43 micro SUV To be sold through NEXA dealership Launch in 2027

Maruti Suzuki is working on an all-new micro SUV, codenamed Y43, which is expected to be launched in the Indian market in 2027. The new micro SUV is reportedly to be launched as a replacement for the aging Ignis, which was first introduced in January 2017 as a premium urban compact vehicle. The Maruti Ignis failed to generate volumes for the brand, and is expected to be replaced by the new micro SUV.

The Maruti Y43 compact SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch. This time around, MSIL is looking at multi-powertrain strategy, and the new micro SUV is expected to be offered with mild-hybrid petrol, CNG/CBG and electric powertrain options. A strong hybrid version based on the 1.2L Z series engine could also be introduced.

The small SUV is likely to get a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine with a mild-hybrid setup. The company could also introduce the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. This micro SUV will appeal primarily to first-time car buyers looking for a compact SUV with a high ground clearance. In fact, buyers in India are ready to shed extra to drive home an entry-level SUV over hatchback. This is evident from the huge success of the Tata Punch, which was launched in 2021.

The new Maruti small SUV is expected to have an upright SUV styling, and will be loaded with high-end features. This model will be positioned alongside the Swift hatchback, which is one of the best-selling Marutis in India. It is expected to be based on the Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform that also underpins the Swift, Fronx, Baleno and Dzire.

MSIL is also working on a new 7-seater SUV based on the Grand Vitara. The company believes that the new 7-seater SUV and the Y43 micro SUV will bring additional sales of 2.5 lakh units per annum. Similar to the Ignis, the new Maruti Y43 micro SUV will be sold through NEXA premium dealership network.
