The Korean automaker, Hyundai, will finally launch the locally developed Creta electric SUV in January 2024. Not just Creta EV, the company is working on multiple SUVs for the fast-growing Indian market. It seems like Hyundai is following Maruti Suzuki’s strategy, offering multiple products in the same category. The company is developing 3 sub-4 meter SUVs including the Inster EV, an i20-based crossover and the next-generation Venue. All these models will be launched in 2025-27. Let’s talk about each model in detail.
First launched in 2019, the Hyundai Venue sub-4 meter SUV will enter the next generation in late 2025. It will be Hyundai's first model to be manufactured at Hyundai's new Talegaon facility in Maharashtra. For people not in the know, Hyundai acquired the Talegaon factory from General Motors in 2023.
Codenamed the QU2i, the new model is expected to be based on the existing platform. Production of the new Venue is reportedly to be commenced in October 2025. The SUV will come with all-new styling and a feature-loaded interior. Its design will be in line with the Creta and the Alcazar facelift. The new Venue is most likely to retain the engine options, which include a 1.2L NA petrol, a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel.
Hyundai Bayon is one of the smallest cars from Hyundai's European portfolio. Now, the automaker is planning to introduce it in our market. This compact crossover is expected to arrive in India between 2026-2027. Upon launch, it will be a direct rival to the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. While the global-spec model has a length of 4180mm, the India-based version will be under 4 meters in length.
Also, it is yet to be confirmed whether Hyundai India will pick the same Bayon name for the upcoming compact SUV. The India-spec Bayon will sit between the Exter and the Venue in Hyundai's car lineup. Based on the new i20 platform (Hyundai-Kia K2), it is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol mill. While the NA petrol can produce 80 bhp and 114 Nm, the turbo petrol unit delivers 118 bhp and 172 Nm. Both engines are offered with manual and automatic gearbox options.
Hyundai has recently unveiled the Inster sub-compact electric SUV for the global markets. The small electric SUV will also arrive in our market sometime in 2026. Codenamed HE1i, the new Hyundai Inster EV will be manufactured at the brand's Sriperumbudur factory. Also See - Hyundai Inster EV - Top 5 Things To Know
The new Inster is based on Hyundai's global and affordable E-GMP (K) platform. Its styling is inspired by the Casper micro SUV on sale in select international markets including Korea. The small SUV measures 3.8 meters in length, which is quite similar to the Exter micro SUV.
The Hyundai Inster EV will directly rival the Tata Punch EV. It is available with two battery options - 42kWh and 49kWh. Both models are offered with front-axle mounted electric motors offering 95 bhp in the base variant and 113 bhp in the long-range variant. The peak torque stands at 147Nm for both variants. It is claimed to offer an electric range of 355km on a single charge.
