Stellantis to introduce Leapmotor electric brand in India Hyundai's luxury-arm, Genesis, confirmed for our market JSW Motors to begin its standalone journey with NEVs
Global car manufacturers are looking at India to grow their business. We have already seen the successful arrival of the VinFast, the Vietnamese electric brand in 2025. Seeing the potential, a new wave of global partnerships and independent auto giants are entering the fray, bringing the budget friendly EVs to high performance hybrids and top-tier luxury.
Here are the three most significant new car companies coming in India

Leapmotor is set to enter the Indian market as an “affordable electric” brand of Stellantis (which owns Jeep and Citroen) in India. The company has already filed patents for multiple products, latest being the B10 SUV, in India. Leapmotor is targeting the mass-market EV segment, which is currently dominated by Tata Motors.
- The company will leverage Stellantis’ vast dealer and service network to avoid the “new brand” trust deficit.
- Leapmotor is expected to launch multiple new models, including the T03 compact city EV, the C10 premium electric SUV and the B10 mid-sized electric SUV. The T03 will be the brand’s smallest and cheapest offering with price expected under Rs 10 lakh.
- It use the “Cell-to-Chassis” technology that offers more space inside the cabin and better safety by integrating the battery into the vehicle’s structure.
The JSW Group is already a partner in MG Motor India, but the Group is now launching the JSW Motors as a standalone independent partner. The company has joined hands with the Chinese Chery to introduce high-performance New Energy Vehicles (NEVs).
- The company will locally assemble the products at its new Greenfield plant in Maharashtra to ensure competitive pricing.
- The Jetour T2 is set to be the brand’s first model in our market. It will be a plug-in hybrid SUV with capabilities of driving over 100kms purely on electric battery. The T2 hybrid is expected to be launched before Diwali 2026. The company is also planning to launch the Jaecoo J5 based compact SUV in our market in late 2026 or early 2027.
Hyundai has officially announced to introduce its luxury arm, Genesis to take on the likes of the Mercedes, BMW and Audi in India. The full commercial rollout is slated for early 2027, as the company is currently doing brand building and infrastructure setup.
- Genesis is expected to follow a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, and assemble cars in Chennai to keep prices competitive.
- The company plans to introduce the GV80 SUV as its first offering in our market. The G80 luxury sedan, GV60 and GV70 SUVs are also expected to be introduced in our market.
The introduction of JSW Motors and Leapmotor suggests that the Indian market is shifting towards New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) - a mix of hybrids (including PHEVs) and EVs. On the other hand, Hyundai launching the luxury Genesis brand suggests that their is enough space in the luxury segment for new car companies and the Indian buyers are now willing to look beyond German badges.
