5 Big SUV Launches Planned for India in FY27

Five important midsize SUVs are set to launch in FY27. Hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric options are on the way. New Creta, Seltos, Duster, Hector Hawk and Elevate lead the list.

The midsize SUV segment is set for a busy year as several leading carmakers prepare to launch new models in India during FY27. Buyers can expect everything from next-generation SUVs to hybrid, plug-in hybrid and even all-electric options. Brands such as MG, Hyundai, Kia, Renault and Honda are all working on important new launches that will strengthen their presence in one of India's most competitive segments.

Here's a look at five big SUV launches planned for India in FY27.

1. MG Hector Hawk PHEV & EV

MG is expected to make a big move into the plug-in hybrid segment with the Hector Hawk, which is scheduled to debut on July 16. Based on the global Wuling Starlight 560, the SUV is likely to be offered with both plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains. The PHEV version is expected to use a 1.5-litre petrol engine, an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack, offering up to 100 km of electric-only driving range. An electric version could also join the lineup with a 56.7 kWh battery pack and a claimed range of around 500 km. MG may also introduce a three-row version at a later stage.

2. Next-Generation Hyundai Creta

Hyundai is preparing the biggest update yet for the Creta. The next-generation model, codenamed SX3, has already been spotted testing in India. It will be based on Hyundai's new K3 platform and is expected to arrive in early 2027. The new SUV is likely to feature a redesigned exterior, improved ride quality with a multi-link rear suspension, larger 19-inch alloy wheels and several new comfort features. Engine options are expected to continue with the existing 1.5-litre petrol, diesel and turbo-petrol units.

3. Kia Seltos Hybrid

Kia is also working on a hybrid version of the next-generation Seltos. The SUV is expected to borrow the brand's upcoming strong hybrid system, which will first debut in the Sorento. The setup will combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with electric motors and a battery pack. Fuel efficiency is expected to be around 25 kmpl, making it one of the most economical SUVs in its class. The hybrid technology will also help Kia compete with existing strong hybrid SUVs in the market.

4. Renault Duster Hybrid

The Renault Duster is finally making a comeback in India, and this time it will also get a strong hybrid version. Expected around the festive season later this year, the Duster Hybrid will use a 1.8-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. The hybrid system develops 160 hp and works with a multi-mode automatic transmission. Apart from the new powertrain, the SUV will share most of its design and features with the regular Duster.

5. Honda Elevate Facelift

Honda is also preparing an updated version of the Elevate. The facelift has already been spotted testing and is expected to receive revised styling along with several new features. Updates could include ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, a larger touchscreen infotainment system and an upgraded ADAS suite. Power will continue to come from the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox.
