October 2024 was a great month for the Indian automobile industry as the festive season increased footfall across showrooms. The inventory stock at OEMs and dealerships allowed them to offer attractive discount offers, and buyers didn’t hesitate to take advantage of their purchases. This is why OEMs like Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra recorded their highest-ever monthly sales in October 2024.
Hyundai Creta - 17,497
Maruti Brezza - 16,565
Maruti Fronx - 16,419
Tata Punch/EV - 15,740
Mahindra Scorpio/N - 15,677
The Indo-Japanese automaker registered total sales of 2,06,434 units, while the indigenous carmaker overtook Tata with sales of 54,504 units. Mahindra’s XUV700 SUV managed to achieve the 10,000 sales mark for the first time ever, thanks to the festive season and a price cut. The Mahindra Thar Roxx also helped the home-grown automaker become India’s third-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in October 2024.
In SUV sales, the Hyundai Creta secured the top spot with total sales of 17,497 units compared to 13,077 units in the same month last year, marking a YoY sales growth of 33.80 percent. The South Korean automaker is all set to introduce the electric iteration of the Creta SUV in January 2025. It will be Hyundai's first mass-market EV, competing with the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.
With total sales of 16,565 units, Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza was the second best-selling SUV in October. It recorded a marginal YoY growth of 3.21 percent. The Maruti Fronx ranked third with sales of 16,419 units, up from 11,357 units in October 2023, reflecting a YoY growth of 44.57 percent. Interestingly, the Fronx will be the first Maruti Suzuki model to feature the brand’s own strong hybrid powertrain in a mid-life update in 2025. The strong hybrid technology will be paired with the new 1.2L Z-Series petrol engine.
The Tata Punch (along with its electric version) recorded total sales of 15,740 units, up from 15,317 units in the same month last year. Last but not least, the Mahindra Scorpio (Classic and N) earned the title of the fifth best-selling SUV in October 2024, recording a YoY sales growth of 15.46 percent.
