Land Rover has revealed a new variant of the Defender 130 that is powered by a V8 petrol engine. It becomes the most expensive trim in the Defender lineup, and will directly rival the Mercedes-AMG G63 SUV. We take a closer look.
The V8 Defender 130 differentiates itself from the petrol and diesel 130 variants with a bespoke black and gray colour option, blacked-out windows, 22-inch special alloy wheels, V8 badging, and quad-mounted exhausts.
Its interior stays similar and provides most of the optional features like a four-zone climate control, 14-way adjustable heated and cooled seats, heads-up display, and the Meridian audio system as standard.
The British automaker has also introduced the New Defender 130 ‘Outbound’ Edition. This special edition deletes the last row of seats to allow "those with active and adventurous lifestyles to pack everything they need to get out and explore". As a result, its boot space goes up to 1,329 litres further increasing to 2,516 litres with the second row folded. Land Rover Defender 130 ‘Outbound’ Edition is available with the mild-hybrid D300 diesel and P400 petrol motor only.
The New Defender 130 is powered by the same 5-litre supercharged V8 engine that does duty in the smaller 90 and 110 variants. Here, it makes 500 bhp with 610 Nm of peak torque and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The brand claims the SUV can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.4 seconds.
Land Rover recently launched the standard Defender 130 in India, with prices ranging from Rs 1.30 crore to Rs 1.41 crore (ex-showroom). Expect the V8 and the Outbound Edition to reach our shores by the end of this year.
