Mahindra’s New Compact SUV Spotted With Diesel Engine

Diesel engine confirmed for Mahindra’s new compact SUV. Cabin design draws from Vision S concept. Production to start in 2027, LHD versions by 2028.

Mahindra’s upcoming compact SUV, built on the NU_IQ platform, has been spotted again. The latest sightings confirm that the SUV will feature an ICE powertrain. A diesel version has been confirmed thanks to an AdBlue cap found inside one of its fuel lids.

The SUV’s exterior shows Thar-like headlamp units, giving it a familiar, rugged look. Inside, the cabin takes inspiration from the Vision S concept. Features include stylish AC vents, intuitive button controls, new seat designs, a three-spoke steering wheel, a 60:40 split rear bench, and a panoramic sunroof.

ICE Confirmed, But BEV Possible

While mechanical details are still under wraps, Mahindra has confirmed ICE powertrains for the Vision S derivatives. The NU_IQ platform is modular, so it can also accommodate electric powertrains in future models.

Positioning and Production Timeline

The new SUV is expected to sit between the 3XO and the Scorpio in Mahindra’s lineup. With growing demand for SUVs over four metres, Mahindra is preparing this model to appeal to a wider audience. Production of NU_IQ-based SUVs is expected to start in 2027, with left-hand-drive versions for international markets coming in 2028.
