Next-gen Fortuner front spied in Thailand Design inspired by new Hilux Global debut expected by mid-2026
Toyota has started testing the next-generation Fortuner SUV, which suggests that the global debut could take place before the end of this year. The current model was first introduced in 2015, and has completed 10 years in multiple markets. After revealing the rear profile, the latest spy images show the front design of the next-gen Toyota Fortuner. The new SUV has more aggressive front design and features Toyota’s new design language, which we have already seen on some of its bigger SUVs on sale in global markets.
The next-generation Toyota Fortuner front design seems inspired by the new-generation Hilux pickup and the 4Runner SUV. It gets the Hilux-like slimmer LED headlights connected by a trim piece that is likely to house ‘TOYOTA’ lettering. The SUV has an all-new honeycomb-patterned grille, and an aggressive-looking lower bumper that houses newly designed air intakes and muscular skid plate.
The front is heavily covered in thick cloth, but it is visible that the new model gets a 360-degree camera. There is a front camera module placed right below the trim piece/TOYOTA lettering. The SUV offers a wider stance from both front and rear. The silhouette remains boxy and offers an imposing stance.
Previous spy image reveals that the new Fortuner gets more upright and squared-off rear profile, newly styled tail-lamp design, newly styled bumper and tailgate.
If media reports are to be believed, next Fortuner will be based on the TNGA-F platform that underpins the Land Cruiser and Prado. However, we believe that the SUV will continue to built on the brand’s IMV platform that also underpins the new Hilux.
For people not in the know, the new Toyota Hilux is offered with multiple engine options, including diesel, petrol, 48V hybrid and battery electric vehicle. In fact, Toyota is also developing the lifestyle pickup powered by hydrogen fuel-cell. It is expected that the next-gen Toyota Fortuner will also follow a multi-powertrain strategy. However, the India-spec model will initially come with petrol and diesel engines, and hybrid or EVs could join the lineup in near future.
It is expected that the new Fortuner cabin will receive comprehensive upgrades. The SUV will have all-new dashboard layout along with a longer list of premium features. The next-gen Toyota Fortuner is expected to get a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a 12.3-inch fully digital driver’s display. The SUV will also come with Toyota Safety Sense suite with wide range of driver assistance features.
Similar to the new Hilux, the next Fortuner is likely to get an electric power steering and over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The current model lacks latest tech, including ADAS. The SUV could also get a panoramic sunroof, powered driver and co-driver seats, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and others.
The India-spec next-gen Toyota Fortuner is likely to be offered with the familiar 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel engine with an integrated starter generator. This engine produces 201bhp and 500Nm of torque, and its mild-hybrid unit is expected to add another 14bhp and 64Nm. Its petrol version is expected to get a 2.7-litre engine paired to an automatic gearbox. We believe that the SUV could also get a 2.4-litre hybrid turbo petrol engine, which powers few global Lexus and Toyota models.
We expect that the new-gen Toyota Fortuner could debut in Thailand and other South Asian markets by mid-2026. India launch is expected in late 2026 or early 2027. The SUV will take on the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq and the MG Majestor.
