The new Boreal will compete against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross, Jeep Compass and Volkswagen Taos in global markets. However, the India-spec model will be a 7-seater model and will take on the likes of the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and the Mahindra XUV700.

It will be powered by a 1.3-litre The turbocharged petrol engine that produces 156hp and 270Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission).
The SUV is also likely to get a strong hybrid powertrain, featuring a 94bhp, 1.6L petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery pack. The combined power output stands at 140bhp. This is the same powertrain available in the 5-seater Duster.
The global spec Renault Boreal could get a 108bhp petrol engine coupled to a 51bhp motor, a starter generator and a 1.4kWh battery. The hybrid setup is capable of producing 155bhp of power. The SUV could also get an AWD set-up.
