The much-awaited Renault Boreal SUV has finally made its global debut. This C-segment SUV will go on sale in India by mid-2026, most probably around June-July. The new model will arrive in our market as a 7-seater model and will be manufactured at Renault’s Chennai based production facility.

The new Boreal will compete against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross, Jeep Compass and Volkswagen Taos in global markets. However, the India-spec model will be a 7-seater model and will take on the likes of the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and the Mahindra XUV700.
The Renault Boreal measures 4.56 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.70 meters. It is similar to the proportions of the Dacia Bigster, which is on sale in select European markets. This 5-seater SUV has a boot space of 586-litres, which can be further expanded to 1,770 litres by folding the rear seats. The SUV has a high ground clearance of 213-litres.

The new Renault Boreal SUV will share the powertrains with other Renault models, including the Dacia Bigster and Duster. It will be powered by a 1.3-litre The turbocharged petrol engine that produces 156hp and 270Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission).
The SUV is also likely to get a strong hybrid powertrain, featuring a 94bhp, 1.6L petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery pack. The combined power output stands at 140bhp. This is the same powertrain available in the 5-seater Duster.
The global spec Renault Boreal could get a 108bhp petrol engine coupled to a 51bhp motor, a starter generator and a 1.4kWh battery. The hybrid setup is capable of producing 155bhp of power. The SUV could also get an AWD set-up.

10-inch digital instrument console
10-inch touchscreen infotainment unit
Harman/Kardon audio system with 10 speakers
Powered tailgatePanoramic Sunroof
Four USB ports
OpenRLink system with Google Automotive Services
24 driver assistance systems (ADAS)
Dual zone climate control
Electrically adjustable front seats
19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels
Wireless smartphone charger
Ambient lighting with 48 colour options
Centre console with refrigerated compartment

The Boreal looks like an extended version of the Duster SUV with some resemblance with the Dacia Bigster. The SUV gets a signature grille with Renault’s new badge in the centre, a more prominent bumper that houses a larger air dam, and a gloss black panel that merges nicely with LED headlamps clusters. Other design highlights include pull-type front door handles, and B-pillar mounted rear door handle, roof rails and bold shoulder creases. It gets squarish wheel arches with black cladding, LED tail-lamps, a silver skid plate and a spoiler.
