JSW Combat PHEV launch on December 4, 2026 Renault Duster hybrid launch on October 17; bookings open
Seeing the growing demand for electrified vehicles, car manufacturers are now looking at hybrid technology - particularly Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs) and self-charging hybrid tech. Automakers are preparing to launch models that offer a combination of long-distance highway performance, zero-emission urban commuting, and high fuel economy.
In this article, we talk about two major high-mileage hybrid SUVs set to officially launch or be revealed before the end of this year.
Expected Launch Date: December 4, 2026
Estimated Price: Rs 30 lakh - Rs 35 lakh
Estimated Driving Range: Up to 1,200 km of combined range, and 90 km pure-EV range.
Competition: MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV, Honda ZR-V Hybrid
The JSW Combat is essentially the re-badged version of the Jetour T2, which is available with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options in global markets. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine coupled to two electric motors and an 18.4 kWh battery pack. This AWD version produces 360 hp of power and 610 Nm of torque. There is a dedicated 3-speed hybrid transmission to drive power to all-4 wheels. In the front-wheel-drive setup, the powertrain produces 156 hp and 220 Nm.
The plug-in hybrid SUV is claimed to offer a pure electric range of up to 90 km (NEDC) and a combined range of around 1200km. Using a 50 kW DC fast charger, the battery can achieve 30% to 80% charging status in around 27 minutes. On the flip side, the battery can be fully charged using a 6.6 kW AC charger in 3 hours.
The new Combat comes with a boxy off-roader stance with a five-slat front grille, flat bonnet, tall roof rails, squared-off wheel arches, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. In terms of features, the SUV will get a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, and a 360-degree surround view camera. It will get LEVEL 2 ADAS suite with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and others.

Official Launch Date: October 17, 2026
Booking Amount: Rs 21,000
ARAI certified mileage: 29 kmpl
Estimated Price: Rs 18 lakh - Rs 24 lakh
The new Renault Duster hybrid E-Tech 160 is powered by a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine combined with dual electric motors (20bhp motor working as a starter generator and a 49bhp traction motor that drives the wheels) and a compact 1.4 kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a combined power of 160bhp and 172Nm of torque, making it more powerful than the hybrid versions of the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. The SUV comes with a multi-mode clutchless automatic gearbox.
Renault has confirmed that the hybrid SUV will deliver an ARAI certified fuel economy of 29 kmpl, which is more than the Maruti Victoris (28.65kmpl), Toyota Hyryder (27.97kmpl) and Maruti Grand Vitara (27.97 kmpl).
The Duster Hybrid will feature the familiar Renault grille, LED headlamps with eyebrow-shaped DRLs, 18-inch dual-tone alloys, a rear bumper with a contrasting silver surround and triangular connected taillamps. The SUV offers a ground clearance of 212mm, and a boot space of 518-litres. In terms of features, the SUV will get a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Google and wireless smartphone connectivity, front ventilated seats, electrically adjustable front seats, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, LEVEL-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, auto dimming IRVM and more.
