Renault Duster Hybrid Vs Victoris Vs Hyryder: Fuel Efficiency Showdown

Renault Duster Hybrid delivers 29 kmpl Beats Hyryder, Victoris and Grand Vitara Duster hybrid launching on October 17

Hybrids are new diesels, and this is evident from the recent announcements of hybrid plans from multiple brands in India. With Renault officially revealing the ARAI-certified fuel economy figures for the Renault Duster Strong Hybrid (E-Tech 160), it has thrown a tough challenge against established heavyweights like the Maruti Grand Vitara, the Maruti Victoris and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Here is a detailed mileage breakdown and comparison of how these top strong-hybrid SUVs stack up against each other on paper.

ARAI-Certified Mileage Comparison

When it comes to official fuel efficiency figures, the new Duster Hybrid has managed to edge slightly ahead of its competitors:

SUV Model

Powertrain Type

ARAI Mileage (Claimed)

Renault Duster Strong Hybrid

1.8L Petrol + Dual Electric Motors (E-Tech)

29.00 km/l

Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid

1.5L Petrol + Strong Hybrid

28.65 km/l

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid

1.5L Petrol + Strong Hybrid (e-CVT)

27.97 km/l

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid

1.5L Petrol + Strong Hybrid (e-CVT)

27.97 km/l

With an ARAI certified mileage of 29 kmpl, the Duster Hybrid beats the Grand Vitara and Hyryder twins by around 1.03 kmpl, making it the most fuel-efficient strong hybrid SUV in its class. It also offers a marginal 0.35kmpl higher fuel efficiency compared to the Maruti Suzuki Victoris.

Engine and Tech Differences

Renault Duster E-Tech Hybrid: it is packed with a larger 1.8-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors (20bhp motor working as a starter generator and a 49bhp traction motor that drives the wheels) and a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The power is transmitted to the wheels via an intelligent multi-mode automatic transmission. This engine offers a combined power output of 160 PS. Renault claims that the Duster Hybrid can run up to 80% of city driving purely on electric.

Grand Vitara, Hyryder and Victoris: all three features Toyota's 1.5-litre petrol strong-hybrid setup paired with an e-CVT gearbox. These systems are known for offering seamless transition between electric and petrol power, delivering high real-world efficiency. The powertrain offers a combined power of 115.56 hp.
