Renault’s Upcoming Hybrid SUVs in India - Duster and More

Renault Duster Hybrid is coming to India A new 7-seater hybrid SUV will follow More Renault hybrid SUVs are planned for 2027-29

Renault is preparing to expand its SUV lineup in India with a series of new models, including hybrid-powered SUVs. The upcoming range will include the new-generation Duster, a larger three-row SUV and other models aimed at strengthening Renault’s position in the growing SUV market.

With hybrid technology becoming more popular in India, Renault is expected to use its new platform and powertrain options to offer better fuel efficiency without fully moving to electric vehicles.

Renault Duster Hybrid

The new-generation Renault Duster will be one of the most important upcoming models for the brand in India. It will be based on the Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP), which has been designed to support different powertrain options, including hybrid technology.

The Duster is expected to get a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with two electric motors. One electric motor works as a starter-generator, while the second motor drives the wheels. The setup will be supported by a 1.4kWh battery pack.

The hybrid powertrain is expected to produce around 160hp and 172Nm. This could make the Duster one of the more powerful hybrid SUVs in its segment.

Renault is also preparing a larger SUV for India that will sit above the Duster. The new model is expected to offer three rows of seating and could become Renault’s answer to the growing demand for spacious family SUVs.

The SUV will also use the RGMP platform and is expected to share several components with the Duster. While its final name for India has not been confirmed, names such as Boreal and Bigster have been linked to the model.

The larger SUV is also expected to get the same 1.8-litre strong hybrid powertrain as the Duster, with an output of around 160hp and 172Nm.

More Hybrid SUVs Could Follow

Renault's hybrid push is not expected to be limited to these two SUVs. The company is working on a broader product strategy for India, with new models planned across different segments.

The brand is also expected to introduce the Bridger SUV in India in 2027. A hybrid version could follow later, potentially around 2028-29. It is expected to use a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol hybrid powertrain.
