Mahindra sold 5217 EVs in March 2026 JSW MG Motor sold 5113 EVs Tata retains the top spot with 8,224 EVs sold last month

According to the March vehicle registration data, Tata Motors retains its top position in the list of top passenger electric vehicle makers. The big news is that Mahindra has surpassed JSW MG Motor India to become the second-largest electric carmaker in terms of monthly sales.

Mahindra has sold 5217 electric SUVs in the March 2026, while JSW MG Motor sold 5113 EVs in the country. However, JSW MG Motor India retains the second spot for the financial year 2025-26 ended March 31. 


Tata Motors sold 8,224 electric vehicles in March 2026, which is 65 per cent higher compared to the same month last year. However, its market share decline to 39.2 per cent in FY2026 from 53.4 per cent in FY2025. Mahindra launched multiple born-electric SUVs, including the XEV 9S, XEV 9e, BE 6 along with the electric derivative of the XUV 3XO. 


Mahindra sold 5217 units in March 2026 as compared to 2,166 units in the same month last year, registering a staggering YoY sales growth of 141 per cent. The homegrown automaker has 21.2 per cent of the market share in EV segment in FY26 compared to 7.8 per cent in FY25.


For JSW MG Motor, the Windsor EV has been a consistent volume driver. The brand’s March sales rose by 21 per cent; however, its fiscal-year market share slipped to 26.4 per cent from 28.0 per cent. 


Kia Motors has also posted strong EV sales in March 2026. The company sold 940 units in March 2026 as against 25 in the same month last year. The company posted a total EV sales of 4,183 units in FY26 compared with 409 units in FY25. The company has a market share of 2.1 per cent in the electric passenger vehicle segment.
