Kia is gearing up to unveil the next-generation Seltos, codenamed SP3, with significant upgrades, including the introduction of a hybrid powertrain. The global variant is also expected to feature Kia’s newly developed electronic all-wheel-drive (E-AWD) system.
Since its debut in 2019, the Kia Seltos has been known for its petrol and diesel engine options. However, the 2026 model is set to introduce a hybrid version for the first time, reflecting a shift toward cleaner and more efficient technology. Globally, the new Seltos is expected to get a 1.6-litre hybrid engine delivering around 141 horsepower.
For India, the hybrid version is likely to be more cost-effective. Rumours suggest it could use the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with electric assistance, making it an attractive alternative for buyers seeking better fuel efficiency without breaking the bank.
One of the standout features of the global-spec 2026 Seltos is Kia’s newly developed electronic all-wheel-drive (E-AWD) system. Designed primarily for international markets like Europe, the E-AWD promises improved torque distribution, better grip, and enhanced driving stability on challenging terrains.
This electric AWD system marks a new chapter for Kia’s hybrid models, potentially expanding the brand’s footprint in countries where AWD capability is a priority due to seasonal and road conditions.
The 2026 Kia Seltos will adopt the brand’s latest ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, seen previously on models like the EV9. The test mules reveal a redesigned front end with vertically stacked LED daytime running lights and a sharper, more aggressive headlamp cluster. A revamped grille and familiar bumper styling round off the updated front look.
At the rear, spy shots suggest the addition of a connected LED tail-lamp design, resembling the EV5’s rear profile. A new set of 18-inch alloy wheels has also been spotted, hinting at upgraded design for the top-end trims.
While interior images are still under wraps, the second-gen Seltos is expected to receive a significant update inside the cabin. A new dashboard layout, improved materials, and the addition of modern features are anticipated, making the SUV more premium and competitive in its segment.
The global launch of the 2026 Kia Seltos is set for January 2026, but the India-spec version may follow with some changes. The hybrid and E-AWD systems are unlikely to be identical to global models due to market-specific demands and cost considerations. However, Indian buyers can still expect a fresh design, better efficiency, and a feature-packed SUV that’s ready to challenge rivals.
