Tata Curvv will be offered with petrol, diesel and electric versions Mahindra to bring its 5-door Thar with a 2.2-litre diesel unit New-gen Kia Carnival and Alcazar facelift to also launch this year
Diesel SUVs continue to be a popular choice among Indian consumers due to their fuel efficiency and powerful performance. This year, the Indian car market is set to see the launch of several new diesel SUVs.
If you are looking for an SUV capable of handling rugged landscapes, these upcoming diesel SUVs in India are sure to have something for everyone.

Tata Motors is preparing to launch a new Curvv model with a coupe-SUV body styling. The biggest highlight is that the upcoming Curvv will be available with multiple powertrain choices including petrol, diesel, and electric variants.
It is likely to adopt the same diesel engine offered by Tata Nexon. With the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel unit, it can produce 123 bhp of peak power with a max torque of 233 Nm. Expected to launch by the end of this year, the Curvv diesel SUV could be priced at around Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Another diesel SUV to launch by the end of 2024 is the Mahindra Thar in a 5-door avatar. The larger version of the 3-door Thar has been spotted testing several times on roads. Mahindra Thar 5-door could also be called Thar Armada upon launch, however it is not confirmed yet.
The 5-door Armada could get ADAS and more safety features over the current Thar. It is expected to use the same 2.2-litre diesel engine offered in the 3-door counterpart. Paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, this diesel engine can produce 129 bhp of power with 300 Nm of torque. A choice of RWD and 4WD will also be on offer. Expect it to be priced at Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Alcazar will get the mid-life facelift this year. Expected to launch by October 2023, the 3-row SUV will feature an all-new front fascia and a range of features such as a 10.25-inch dual screen for infotainment and digital instrument cluster, also seen in Creta facelift.
As for the powertrain, it will continue to use the same set of engine options available in the current model. Its 1.5-litre diesel engine can generate 114 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. Transmission jobs are handled by both manual and automatic. It could be priced between Rs 17-22 lakh (ex-showroom).

The facelift version of Tucson has already been revealed in American and European markets. It will now make its arrival in the Indian market by the year-end.
The Tucson facelift will boast a new design, a variety of new tech features, and new engine choices. There will hardly be any mechanical changes for the updated SUV. It is likely to use the same 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. Its diesel engine can churn out 186 bhp and 416 Nm of torque, paired with 8-speed automatic transmission. Price-wise, it could range somewhere around Rs 29 lakh (ex-showroom).

The South Korean automaker, Kia is gearing up to launch the fourth-gen Carnival during this festive season. The previous gen model was powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine. For the new-gen Carnival, Kia is likely to retain the same engine which can pump out 197 bhp and 440 Nm of torque. The price for this model could hover around Rs 26-35 lakh (ex-showroom).
