BMW India is getting ready to bring the New G60 5 Series to the market. This was confirmed when the model was spotted being transported on a flatbed near the Global Automotive Research Centre in Chennai. The 8th-generation BMW 5 Series was first revealed globally in May 2023. Now, for the India launch, we can expect the car to hit the roads probably during the upcoming festive season.
According to media reports, the India-spec model is expected to get a long-wheelbase version. However, the version seen in the images appears to be the standard wheelbase one.
The newest iteration of the 5 Series features an evolutionary design with some similarities to its predecessor. Inside, the vehicle adopts the same design language found in other recent BMW introduced models, featuring a dashboard layout dominated by a curved dual-display setup. This setup integrates a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, seamlessly resembling a single screen.
Among its standout features are the latest iDrive 8.5 software, wireless support for Android Auto and CarPlay, wireless charging capability, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a premium audio system, a Heads Up Display (HUD), and more.
Under the hood, the upcoming 5 Series will offer a choice between a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine. Both will come equipped with a mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. And those eyeing more eco-friendly options might receive the i5 eDrive40 variant as well. This trim will provide a 81.2 kWh battery pack offering 582 kms range on a single full charge.
Upon its official launch in the Indian market, the car will compete against the likes of Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6.
