Ferrari’s First EV Luce Confirmed for May 2026, Retro Interior Revealed

Ferrari has officially confirmed that its first-ever electric car will be called Ferrari Luce. The name means Light in Italian. Earlier known as Elettrica during development, the Ferrari Luce will be fully revealed in May 2026.

Here is everything you need to know about the new Ferrari Luce EV:

1. Designed With Jony Ive’s Team

Ferrari has partnered with LoveFrom, a design firm co-founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive, to design both the interior and exterior of the Luce. The Apple-inspired influence is visible in the clean design, premium materials and minimal layout.

2. Retro and Analogue Cabin Theme

Unlike most electric cars that rely heavily on touchscreens, Ferrari has chosen a retro, analogue-focused interior. The cabin uses more physical buttons, knobs and switches to keep the driving experience engaging and tactile.

3. Classic Steering Wheel With Modern Controls

The three-spoke steering wheel is inspired by Ferrari models from the 1950s and 1960s. It features physical buttons for indicators, wipers and cruise control, along with the signature red Manettino switch and a knob to change driving modes like Range, Tour and Performance.

4. Touchscreen That Doesn’t Take Over

The Ferrari Luce gets a 10-inch floating touchscreen, but it is not oversized. It can be adjusted using a solid grab handle, which also works as a palm rest. Toggle switches below the screen control media and climate settings.

5. Digital Display That Looks Old-School

The 12.5-inch instrument cluster looks like three classic analogue dials. In reality, it is a layered OLED screen. The centre dial shows speed, while the side dials change based on the selected driving mode.

6. Unique Centre Console and Key Slot

The floating centre console is made of leather and glass and includes a special key slot. The car starts only after the key is pushed in. Once inserted, the key changes colour, which Ferrari says symbolises power transfer to the car.

7. Helicopter-Style Launch Control

Launch control is activated by pulling a grip above the driver’s head, similar to a helicopter control. Nearby switches are used to manage exterior lighting functions.

8. Practical Features Still Matter

Despite the sporty and premium focus, the Luce offers storage cubbies, cup holders, window switches and boot release buttons. Rear passengers also get a touchscreen that shows speed, lap times and vehicle data.

9. A Future-Focused Ferrari

While the interior takes inspiration from Ferrari’s past, Jony Ive says the Luce is not about nostalgia. The goal is to create a cabin that feels meaningful, physical and relevant for Ferrari’s electric future.
