American premium EV maker Fisker Inc. has announced that it will be launching its Ocean electric SUV in India. The brand stated that it will bring 100 units of the Ocean, all in its top Extreme variant. It will be called the Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition, which is named after Fisker’s India headquarters in Hyderabad. We take a closer look at the upcoming electric SUV.
The Ocean Electric SUV is the first full-production model from Fisker. It is offered in three main variants - Sport, Ultra, and Extreme. While it looks like an SUV, the four-wheeler features sleek LED headlights and taillights that help make it appear smaller than it actually is. It also gets some nifty elements and equipment like the kink on the rear window line, 22-inch aero-optimized three-spoke alloy wheels, and a panoramic sunroof with an integrated solar panel.
Fisker says sustainability is one of the big attributes of Ocean, therefore the vehicle features a vegan interior, recycled rubber and carpets from regenerated nylon. In terms of the feature list, it
gets a 17.1-inch revolving infotainment unit, 3D surround audio setup, a 360-degree camera, digital rear-view mirror, heated seats up front and towards the rear, multi-zone climate control, ADAS-tech, and more. The car will also offer different Drive Modes namely Earth, Fun, and Hyper.
The Ocean Extreme uses a 113 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-electric motor setup. Combined, it produces a maximum power output of 572 bhp with 737 Nm of peak torque. The brand claims a range of 707 km on the WLTP cycle, the highest for any eSUV on sale in Europe.
The company has stated that it will try to set a similar price tag for the Ocean in India as in Europe. In that case, the Ocean Extreme is priced €69,950 or roughly Rs 64.5 lakh in Indian rupees. However, since the electric SUV will be brought in as a CBU, taxes levied on it means it could be priced above Rs 1 crore. In addition to this, the manufacturer has also stated that Indian homologation of the Ocean will be done by September, with deliveries slated to begin by the end of 2023.
