All-electric Hyundai IONIQ 5 spotted on road test in India; Likely to go on sale by early 2023; Will share powertrain components with the KIA EV6

Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) has started road testing of its flagship EV, the IONIQ 5 in the country. Speculated to be launched by early 2023, the all all-electric crossover will be the company’s answer to the Kia EV6, which was launched earlier this year.

Sibling to the EV6, the IONIQ 5 will share its powertrain and platform with the KIA EV. Based on the e-GMP platform, the car is expected to come equipped with two battery pack options. The first is a 58 kWh unit using a 169 bhp (single motor) offering a claimed range of 383 kilometres. The other is a larger 72.6 kWh unit paired to a dual motor setup, offering AWD option. This battery is rated for a claimed range of 481 kilometres. Media reports suggest that the four-wheeler will be launched only with the smaller battery pack option for the Indian auto market.
According to media speculation, Hyundai is planning to start local assemble of the IONIQ 5 to help it get a competitive edge over its rivals. The local production will also help the brand offer the car in large quantities in the market and bring the pricing under Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of appearance, the cross-over SUV EV will largely resemble its international counterpart with a distinctive crossover like appear. There will be minor changes to the wheel size, front and rear bumper for better adaptability to Indian road conditions
Features on the EV include an advanced heads-up display, remote parking assist, dual-zone climate control and level 2 ADAS among others.
In India, the IONIQ 5 will rival the likes of the Kia EV6 and Volvo XC40 Recharge.
