The second-generation Mahindra Thar is one of the brand's most popular models in India. Three years after the launch of the 3-door model, the automaker is planning to introduce a 5-door variant for added practicality.
During the course of the last year, the new Thar 5-door has been spied numerous times hinting at its launch being around the corner. But the automaker has now confirmed that the new model will be introduced in India by Q2 2024 after clearing its current order backlogs.

The latest spy shots confirm that the Thar 5-door will be available with a hard top option only. Besides, the 5-door version will also come with a segment-first electric sunroof which will give the off-roader a unique identity in its segment.
The Thar 3-door is already quite well specced, but Mahindra is going the extra mile to equip the 5-door model to the brim with more utilitarian features. These include the aforementioned sunroof, front central armrest, larger infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multiple seating configurations including captain seats for the second row, new upholstery, increased cabin storage spaces, and more.
Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director & CEO (Auto and Farm Sector), Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, stated, “Our 5-door Thar is not coming in this calendar year, much as many folks are speculating it is. It's a 2024 [calendar year] launch”.
Currently, more than 2 lakh units of the Thar 3-door, XUV700, ScorpioN and Scorpio Classic are yet to be delivered. The company has also stated that it will launch any new models in the market only next year.
