How to Buy Mahindra Thar Like a Pro - Expert Advice

In the Indian car market, the Mahindra Thar nameplate has successfully positioned itself to offer both high-end off-roading features along with comfort. While the launch of the five-door Thar Roxx is just around the corner, if you are particularly interested in the three-door model and willing to make the right and the best bargain, have a look at the points below to know how to do it easily.  Technical Specifications Car Mahindra Thar  Engines 1.5-litre diesel, 2-litre turbo petrol, 2.2-litre diesel    Power  117 bhp, 150 bhp, 130 bhp Torque 300 Nm  Length 3,985 mm Width 1,820 mm  Height 1,844 mm Wheelbase 2,450 mm Price (ex-showroom)    Rs. 11.35 lakh - Rs. 17.20 lakh Define Your Needs In this regard, before you eventually buy your vehicle, consider how you intend to use your Mahindra Thar. The sub-four metre SUV may not be ideal for your old parents, especially the back seats as you need to recline and move forward the front seats to access those. At best, it is fairly adequate for two passengers and the rear compartment can be used for storing luggage as the boot is capable of carrying one mid-sized suitcase. Also note the 226 mm ground clearance would need a footstep for climbing inside the car, which may not be ideal for aged people. Set a Budget  Setting a proper financial plan from where one can afford the car in question as well as other factors like insurance, taxes and any other modifications that may be required. This will keep you from going over your head with expenses and at the same time be able to comfortably afford your new Thar. There are a total of 19 variants on offer, starting from Rs. 11.35 lakh and ending at Rs. 17.20 lakh, ex-showroom. It is your budget that will decide whether you can opt for a 4x4 Thar or not. Visit A Showroom One should go to the authorised Mahindra dealerships to have a look and feel of the Thar. Take a look at the exterior and sit in the driver’s seat to have a feel of the cabin. Try to notice what type of plastic materials have been used and whether touchpoints are within your reach. Also, figure out if the seats are to your liking and offer good comfort. Do not refrain from asking about maintenance tips, the terms and conditions of the car warranty and the possible options for customisation. Test Drive To understand the kinds of surfaces where Thar can actually perform, a test drive is of utmost importance. Focus on steering feedback and handling, braking and ride quality. Ask for a trial on rough terrain, if you can, so that you can determine if the car has what it takes to go on an adventurous trip. Remember, the RWD or two-wheel drive Thar is best suited mostly for city drives but for those seeking a true off-roader, having the 4x4 system onboard is a must. It is also important to conduct market research to update yourself with the current market to be ready to quit the deal if it is exceeding your budget. Sometimes, dealerships provide some specific offers or discounts, so check all that is possible. Consider After-Sales Support Regarding the after-sale service and the availability of auto spare parts, assess the status of the dealership. The dependable service network means that the cars will undergo timely maintenance and services, making your ownership even more enjoyable. Trust me, having a service centre near your home is a boon. Customise to Your Taste The best part of customisation is that a more affordable variant can be loaded with accessories that will take the car’s look and feel several notches above. You may also end up saving a lot of money that would have gone with the purchase of a higher variant. From roof rails to improving the entertainment system, customisations enable you to modify the Thar as per your wants. However, we recommend getting original accessories installed at Mahindra dealerships to prevent any hassle or insurance claim disputes at a later stage. Finalise the Purchase It is therefore recommended that one should first read the purchase agreement keenly before signing it. This will entail being very specific, especially with the warranties offered and the delivery time officially agreed upon. All in all, be patient when you affirm the documentation to prevent others from springing surprises at you. Read Also: Mahindra Thar Vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon - Comparison

Mahindra XUV.e8 The Mahindra XUV.e8 will be the company's first born-electric SUV, due in the market later this year, with a price range somewhere between Rs. 30 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh. The length could be around 4740mm, the width 1900mm, and height of 1760mm. It has a three-screen setup: one for the driver display, another for its large infotainment system, and a third screen is for the co-occupant. It is constructed on the INGLO platform. Externally, the Mahindra XUV.e8 retains certain design elements, such as vertical LED headlights and a full-width LED light bar, while the bumper and grille may undergo redesigns. The steering wheel now features a two-spoke design, departing from previous models. Additionally, the vehicle sports new alloy wheels. The Mahindra XUV.e8 will be a giant leap for Mahindra into the EV market. It is combining performance with technology and unique design elements to evoke interest among modern consumers. Next-gen Mahindra Bolero A new internal combustion platform, U171, is the basis for the development of the new-generation Bolero. The new Bolero is likely to come with a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine producing 117 horsepower and 300Nm of torque. Also, one can expect a petrol variant powered by the same 2.0-litre mStallion turbo in a lower output specification. The exterior design of the new Bolero could remain rugged and boxy in shape. It could incorporate updates like aggressive LED headlamps, hinged doors, new alloy wheels, and LED tail lamps. Inside, it would receive improvements like an increased display size for infotainment, auto air-conditioning, and more. It will come in multiple seating configurations. The 5-seater will be under 4 meters in length, addressing the needs of compact SUVs. There will also be a long wheelbase version, which will get a 9-seat configuration with four front-facing seats. The next-gen Mahindra Bolero has a legendary rugged design refreshed with technology and versatile seating that would appeal to both urban and rural markets through a confluence of power train choices and practicality. Tata Safari EV The new Tata Safari EV will be based on the new ACti.EV platform. It is expected that it will come with connected LED DRLs and alloy wheels. There are also going to be minor design updates. While inside the car, the design will be somewhat similar to the regular model. The cabin reportedly features a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata badge, touch-sensitive buttons supplemented by physical toggle switches for climate control, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, an upgraded ten-speaker JBL sound system, and other features. Information related to the powertrain of an electric Safari has not been given so far. However, sources close to the company indicate that it will have a stated range of about 500km on a single charge. The EV Safari is set for an early January 2025 launch, with prices starting from Rs 32 lakh ex-showroom. Conclusion With these upcoming models, both Mahindra and Tata Motors would make a serious impact in the 7-seater market. The Mahindra XUV.e8 will be Mahindra's EV representative, with advanced functionalities and powerful performance. The next-gen Mahindra Bolero will come with the same rugged appeal but modernized by new technology and versatile seating. Lastly, the Tata Safari EV brings an eco-friendly avatar of the cult SUV that promises a decent electric range along with some modern features. Mahindra Thar Roxx Or Tata Curvv? You Decide
News
Mahindra Thar Roxx Or Tata Curvv? You Decide

If you were to Google ‘August’, the search engine would reply with “respected and impressive” and that is exactly true for the upcoming month. Two homegrown brands are set to disrupt the SUV segment with a sports coupe and a true-bred off-roader. One has to be living under a rock to be unaware of the cars I am talking about. Now that you have read the headline again, Mr Rock, yes, I am talking about the Tata Curvv and the Mahindra Thar Roxx. Congratulations! We’re on the same page, pun intended.  Tata Curvv or Mahindra Thar Roxx - Design Highlights As established earlier, the Tata Curvv being a coupe SUV will boast a striking roofline towards the back and will be longer than the Nexon. The front fascia does look reminiscent of Tata’s current generation of cars with full-width LED DRLs and piano black touches all over. For distinction's sake, the Curvv EV gets a closed nose and chrome lines over the lower grille. Its eighteen-inch petal-shaped alloy wheels are larger than the Nexon’s 16 inchers as well. As per teasers, the Curvv could land with a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera setup. On the Mahindra side of things, the five-door is going to be the most loaded Thar ever. Simply put, it is an elongated Thar three-door that sits on a new platform and suspension borrowed from the Scorpio N. This body-on-frame architecture is known to offer a great balance between off-road stability and impressive handling over tarmac. With those details on paper, I am hooked already. But there’s more. Advanced Driver Assistance System, 360-degree surveillance, and a panoramic sunroof, reportedly, will be offered. Alloys you asked? Eighteen inches my friend, some of which are already on sale in the after-market domain. Let alone the Roxx, you can have them installed in your three-door to up your game. Tata Curvv or Mahindra Thar Roxx - Interior Highlights It's funny how equipment across vehicles is getting standard, while differentiation comes in the form of plastics used and dashboard design. Futuristic design is for Tata fanboys but practical cabin lovers fall in Mahindra’s camp. Let me simplify that for you. A dual digital display, wireless charging, automatic AC and steering-mounted controls are common features between the two. I do expect the Curvv to get ventilated seats with electric operability for movement. Then, Thar has two rows of seating, making it a family mover. Do note that this being a boxy SUV, boot space is expected to be on the higher side.  Tata Curvv or Mahindra Thar Roxx - What’s under the hood? This is where it gets really interesting. The ICE Curvvs get three engines - a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine from the Nexon making 118 bhp and 170 Nm, a new 1.2 TGDi block belting out 225 Nm, an increment of about 25% and a 1.5-litre diesel mill with 167 bhp and 280 Nm on the tap. The brand has yet to reveal the electric Curvv’s battery and motor specifications, but reports suggest that the maximum range would go up to 600 kilometres, and that’s impressive. With the Thar Roxx, there will be three engines and two drive types. For the rear wheel drive Thar Roxx, we expect it to get the Thar’s 1.5-litre diesel block. Whereas, the Scorpio N’s turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines have a power output up to 150 bhp. Interestingly, all three engines have a peak torque of 300 Nm.  Verdict Even though both the Tata Curvv and Mahindra Thar Roxx are SUVs, they differ entirely in every aspect including body type, cabin features and powertrains. The former makes more sense if comfort and high performance are on top of your list. If reports are to be believed, Tata may launch the electric Curvv first. For someone who has a family of five members and seeks to travel across varying landscapes, the Thar Roxx fits the bill perfectly. Be it some serious offroading or city drives, the Mahindra SUV strikes the right balance for every type of driver. Also read - Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs Scorpio Classic

Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs Scorpio Classic
News
Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs Scorpio Classic

Mahindra, the homegrown SUV major, will soon be launching its Thar Roxx five-door. However, if there is one SUV that Mahindra is known for, it is the Scorpio Classic. All have their flavour of appearance, performance and history to offer to varying segments of freedom-loving motorists across the length and breadth of the country.  Design and Appearance  Talking about the Thar Roxx, the design DNA of the Thar has been preserved by Mahindra which made the Thar also a favourite in the off-roading community. To some extent, it might be a bit utilitarian to some although it retains all those fun factors associated with Thar. Fabricated from a sturdy boxlike structure, it has big muscular wheel arches, dual-tone machined alloys and a hard top that also houses a panoramic sunroof, reportedly. DRLs on this one get the round treatment that adds to the entire look of the SUV. In contrast, the Scorpio Classic has a fast glance with a stronger, muscular presence and the tall-boy stance of a regular urban SUV. It boasts a twin peaks logo at the front, chrome bits and an imposing front grille, which as a whole makes it a preferred choice for city commuters as well as long-drive enthusiasts. Also, those 17-inch alloy wheels do look nice. While its boxy design does look dated, the commanding road presence is still intact.  Performance and Handling As for performance, the Thar Roxx Five Door stands out thanks to its strong body, top-notch suspension, and two types of engines – petrol and diesel. Notably, it borrows the suspension setup and powertrains from the Scorpio N. Watch this space to get a real-world review of how the four-wheeler is to drive on the tarmac. The Scorpio N’s petrol and diesel engines produce power and torque output of 200 bhp and 380 Nm and 172 bhp and 400 Nm, respectively. On the other hand, Scorpio Classic comes with an excellent road demeanour due to its 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine making 130 bhp and 300 Nm, packing adequate torque for comfortable highway cruising and modest off-roading. Its chassis and suspension also hold an advantage in comfort as well as a good balance between the two aspects which looks into the drivers’ aspects. It does miss out on a 4x4 setup and turbocharged petrol engine. Interior Comfort and Features In the Thar Roxx Five Door, the interior is expected to be luxurious as well as functional, ready to face off roading conditions. Interior design focuses on perks such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen interface with Mahindra’s latest UI, digital driver’s display, climate control, wireless charging and others. Compared between the two SUVs, the Thar five-door’s cabin is way more equipped and plush. Like its exterior, the interior does feel old and is full of hard plastics all over. Comfort is decent thanks to the massive head, leg and shoulder space. Because of the ladder-on-frame construction, it tends to bounce over rough patches. Some notable features include a 9-inch touchscreen, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable ORVMs and height-adjustable seats. Easy-to-reach control buttons are incorporated on the practical dashboard that needs an update. Price and Value When comparing the prices, they fall under different classes of automobile prices. The Thar Roxx five-door is expected to be priced from Rs. 14 lakh onwards and go all the way up to Rs. 23 lakh. Whereas, the Scorpio Classic’s USP has been its price, bringing in good sales figures considering the fact that its update has been pending for quite some time now. Its ex-showroom price starts at Rs. 13.62 lakh for the S trim and its range-topping S11 variant carries a price tag of Rs. 17.42 lakh. To note, all variants of the Scorpio Classic have a waiting period of at least two months. Also read - Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs Force Gurkha 5-Door
