Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the production of Maruti Suzuki's first battery electric vehicle (EV), the e-Vitara, on August 26, 2025, at the Suzuki Motor plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat. This marks a pivotal moment in India's electric vehicle (EV) journey, as the e-Vitara gets ready for export to international markets.
The e-Vitara will be Maruti Suzuki’s first fully electric vehicle and is aimed at global markets, including Europe and Japan. This strategic move aligns with India’s push to increase automobile exports. Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s growing role in global car exports, stating, “Today, India exports automobiles worth ₹1.2 lakh crore annually.” The e-Vitara is expected to be a key player in this export-driven growth.
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, boasts a robust production network with four plants across the country. In FY2025, the company exported over 332,000 cars while selling nearly 1.9 million units domestically. The e-Vitara will be produced at the Hansalpur plant, which has a dedicated railway siding for smooth transportation to ports, ensuring efficient exports to global destinations.
The e-Vitara represents Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to clean energy and sustainability. As a zero-emission vehicle, the e-Vitara will help India reduce its carbon footprint. With its innovative technology and environmentally friendly design, the car is a significant step forward in India’s transition to electric mobility.
With the e-Vitara production, India continues to assert its presence as a major player in the global automobile market. The car’s global export marks a new chapter for India’s automotive sector, elevating the country’s status as a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing and export.
This milestone is not just a win for Maruti Suzuki but for India’s growing EV ambitions, showcasing the country’s potential to lead in the global electric vehicle market.
