The Suzuki e Vitara, the all-new born-electric midsize SUV from the Japanese automaker, has finally made its world debut in Milan, Italy. It's essentially the production-ready version of the Maruti Suzuki eVX concept. This model is set to arrive in India early next year to compete with the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Mahindra BE 05 and Hyundai Creta EV.
Suzuki’s Gujarat facility will serve as the production hub for the e Vitara SUV, with 50 percent of its production designated for export markets, including Europe and Japan. In India, the Maruti e Vitara will make its first public appearance at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025, with its market launch scheduled a few months after its official unveiling.
The new Maruti e Vitara marks the debut of the new skateboard platform called Heartect-e, which is said to offer a "lightweight structure, high-voltage protection, and a spacious interior due to the short overhang." This electric SUV will be available with two battery packs – 49kWh and 61kWh – featuring LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) ‘Blade’ cells sourced from BYD. The larger battery pack will come with a dual-motor 4WD option, referred to as the AllGrip-e system. It also has a Trail mode, which applies brakes to the spinning wheels and distributes drive torque to the opposite wheel to aid in escaping rough terrain.
The 49kWh and 61kWh battery options, with a single motor on the front axle, generate power outputs of 144bhp and 174bhp, respectively. The torque output for both configurations is the same – 189Nm. The e-AllGrip AWD version with dual electric motors delivers a maximum power of 184bhp and 300Nm of torque. The Maruti e Vitara is equipped with front and rear ventilated disc brakes and comes with 225/55 R18 tires for the 2WD variants and 225/50 R19 tires for the 4WD variants.
The Suzuki e Vitara measures 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,635mm in height. The electric SUV has a wheelbase of 2,700mm and a ground clearance of 180mm. Its kerb weight ranges between 1,702kg and 1,899kg.
The interior of the Suzuki e Vitara feels significantly more premium than the brand’s existing models. The standout feature is a floating dual-screen infotainment system and instrument cluster. Other design elements such as the gloss black finish on the center console, fine detailing on the twin-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a rotary drive mode selector, rectangular AC vents with brushed silver surrounds, and a mix of leather and fabric upholstery add to its upscale feel.
Key features include a wireless phone charger, drive modes, single-zone automatic climate control, adjustable headrests, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. On the safety front, the Maruti e Vitara is equipped with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, hill descent control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, Isofix child seat mounts, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers.
True to its concept, the Suzuki e Vitara follows a “High-Tech & Adventure” design theme, said to "combine the advanced feel of a modern BEV and the strength of an SUV." The electric SUV is characterized by tri-slash LED DRLs at both the front and rear ends, large alloy wheels, C-pillar mounted rear door handles, and black plastic cladding around the body.
