Kia Seltos Hybrid will get an e-AWD system for the first time. The hybrid SUV will offer up to 178 PS power in e-AWD version. India launch of the Seltos Hybrid is expected in 2027.
Kia is preparing a hybrid version of the new Seltos, and one of its biggest highlights will be the introduction of an e-AWD system. The upcoming Seltos Hybrid will become the first Kia model to feature this advanced all-wheel-drive technology.
The hybrid SUV is expected to launch in global markets later this year, while its India launch is likely to happen in 2027. Ahead of its official debut, the Seltos Hybrid has been spotted testing in Europe, revealing more details about its powertrain and features.
The new Kia Seltos Hybrid will be offered with two drivetrain options internationally - 2WD and e-AWD. The 2WD version will focus on better fuel efficiency and everyday usability, making it suitable for regular city and highway driving. Meanwhile, the e-AWD version will be aimed at buyers looking for improved performance, stronger traction and better handling. Unlike a traditional mechanical AWD system, the e-AWD setup uses an electric motor to power the rear wheels. This allows Kia to improve grip without adding heavy mechanical components.

The Seltos Hybrid will use Kia’s new hybrid powertrain technology. The 2WD version produces around 154 PS, while the more powerful e-AWD version delivers 178 PS. The additional electric motor on the rear axle helps improve acceleration and provides better control on slippery surfaces.
The e-AWD system is designed to distribute torque between all four wheels depending on driving conditions. This should make the Seltos Hybrid more confident during cornering and in challenging road conditions.
For international markets, the Kia Seltos Hybrid will use a 1.6-litre GDI hybrid engine paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The hybrid system has been developed mainly to improve fuel efficiency while offering smooth performance for daily driving.
In India, however, Kia is expected to use a different setup. Reports suggest that the India-spec Seltos Hybrid could get a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine combined with hybrid technology. The existing petrol and diesel engine options are expected to continue after the hybrid model arrives.
Apart from the hybrid powertrain, Kia is also adding several features usually found in electric vehicles. The Seltos Hybrid will get Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0, which helps recover energy during braking while also improving driving convenience.
Another highlight will be the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function. This feature allows the SUV to supply power to external devices, similar to many modern EVs. The SUV will also feature a Stay Mode, allowing passengers to use selected cabin functions while the vehicle is parked without wasting unnecessary energy.
The Seltos Hybrid is expected to carry forward the premium cabin layout of the new-generation model. Features could include a large integrated display setup, Type-C charging ports, sporty seats, cruise control and a comprehensive ADAS package. Kia is also expected to offer a front-mounted external speaker that generates artificial driving sounds when the SUV is running in electric-only mode. This feature helps alert pedestrians around the vehicle.

The Kia Seltos Hybrid is expected to arrive in India in 2027 and will strengthen Kia’s electrification strategy. With the addition of a strong hybrid option, the Seltos will sit between conventional petrol and diesel SUVs and fully electric models. It will also compete directly with upcoming hybrid versions of rivals, including the Hyundai Creta. The combination of better fuel efficiency, electric driving capability and the convenience of a petrol engine could make the Seltos Hybrid an important model for Kia in India.
