Kia Syros EV coming to rival Tata Nexon EV. Kia Sorento and Seltos hybrid will launch by 2027.
Kia has announced its long-term product strategy for the Indian market at its 2026 Investor Day. The plan outlines the launch of 10 new models by 2030, including 8 electrified offerings (EVs and hybrids), along with targeting annual sales of over 4 lakh units. Meanwhile, the South Korean automaker is gearing up to launch the Kia Syros EV to challenge the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
Based on the K1 platform, the Syros EV will be Kia’s smallest and most affordable electric offering in India. Similar to its ICE version, it will feature a boxy and tallboy stance. However, design elements such as a revised front grille, redesigned bumpers, aero-optimized alloy wheels and ‘EV’ badges will differentiate it from the standard model. A few EV-specific changes will also be made inside the cabin.
While the official powertrain specifications will be revealed closer to launch, the Kia Syros EV is expected to share its 42kWh and 49kWh battery packs with the Hyundai Inster EV. In terms of pricing, the new Kia electric SUV is expected to cost around Rs 15 lakh for the base variant and nearly Rs 20 lakh for the top-spec version.

Following the launch of the Kia Syros EV, the carmaker will enter the hybrid segment with the Kia Sorento three-row premium SUV and Kia Seltos hybrid. According to reports, the India-spec Sorento and Seltos hybrid are expected to use an electrified version of the brand’s proven 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine.
For reference, the Europe-spec Kia Sorento is available with a 1.6L, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. All variants of the SUV get AWD (all-wheel drive) as standard.
When launched, the Kia Sorento hybrid SUV will take on the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron R-Line and Jeep Meridian. It’s estimated to be priced between Rs 30 lakh – Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming Kia Seltos hybrid is also likely to command a premium over its ICE-powered counterpart.
