3 New Strong-Hybrid SUVs Coming to India

Renault Duster Hybrid is expected to launch around Diwali 2026. Hyundai Creta Hybrid and Kia Seltos Hybrid could arrive in 2027. Strong hybrids offer better efficiency without needing external charging.

Strong-hybrid technology is set to become the next big trend in India's midsize SUV segment. As demand for fuel-efficient vehicles continues to grow and emission norms become stricter, automakers are increasingly looking at hybrid powertrains as an alternative to conventional petrol and diesel engines.

Renault, Hyundai and Kia are all preparing strong-hybrid versions of their popular SUVs, giving buyers more electrified options without the need for charging infrastructure. Here are three upcoming strong-hybrid SUVs expected to arrive in India over the next two years.

1. Renault Duster Hybrid

The upcoming Renault Duster Hybrid is expected to be the first among the three to hit the Indian market. Renault has already confirmed that the hybrid version is planned around the Diwali 2026 period. The SUV is expected to use a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 49bhp electric motor, a 20bhp hybrid starter generator and a 1.4kWh battery pack.

Combined output is expected to be around 160bhp, making it one of the more powerful hybrid offerings in the segment. The combination of a larger petrol engine and electric assistance could offer a balance of performance and efficiency.

2. Hyundai Creta Hybrid

Hyundai is also developing a strong-hybrid version of the Creta, which is expected to arrive in 2027. While technical specifications are yet to be revealed, the hybrid Creta is expected to play a key role in Hyundai's electrification strategy for India. The SUV already offers multiple petrol and diesel engine options, and the addition of a hybrid variant would further expand its appeal. The strong-hybrid system is likely to improve fuel efficiency, especially in city driving conditions where electric assistance can significantly reduce fuel consumption.

3. Kia Seltos Hybrid

The Kia Seltos Hybrid is also expected to make its debut in 2027. Given the technology-sharing arrangement between Hyundai and Kia globally, the Seltos Hybrid could use a similar powertrain setup to the upcoming Creta Hybrid. The addition of a strong-hybrid option would help Kia strengthen the Seltos lineup and cater to buyers looking for lower running costs without switching to a fully electric vehicle. With hybrid SUVs gaining popularity in India, the Seltos Hybrid could become an important model in Kia's future portfolio.
