Kia Seltos Hybrid Could Arrive Soon; EV Also Under Study

Kia is preparing a strong-hybrid version of the Seltos. An all-electric Seltos is also being studied for India. Kia plans to have eight electrified models by 2030.

Kia is working on expanding its electrified lineup in India, and the Seltos is expected to be one of the biggest parts of that plan. The company is developing a strong-hybrid version of the popular SUV, while an electric Seltos is also being studied for the Indian market.

If everything goes as planned, the Seltos could become one of the few SUVs in its segment to offer petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrain options.

Seltos Hybrid Could Be the Next Big Launch

The Kia Seltos has been one of the brand's most popular models in India since its launch. To keep it competitive, Kia is now expected to introduce a strong-hybrid version in the coming years. The hybrid model is likely to offer better fuel efficiency than the regular petrol version, making it a good option for buyers who want lower running costs without switching to a fully electric car. Once launched, the Seltos Hybrid will compete with models such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Electric Seltos Also Being Considered

Along with the hybrid version, Kia is also looking at bringing an all-electric Seltos to India. The company has not confirmed the launch yet, but it has said that the idea is being studied. If approved, the electric Seltos will take on rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric and other upcoming electric SUVs in the midsize segment. Offering both hybrid and electric versions would give customers more options depending on how they use their vehicles.

Kia Wants to Offer More Powertrain Choices

Kia is not focusing only on electric vehicles. The company wants to offer different powertrain options to suit different types of buyers. For people who mainly drive in cities, an EV can help reduce running costs. Buyers who travel longer distances may prefer a hybrid, while factory-fitted CNG models will appeal to those looking for lower fuel expenses. This approach will allow Kia to reach a wider range of customers across different segments.

Sorento Hybrid Coming This Year

Before the Seltos Hybrid arrives, Kia will launch the new Sorento Hybrid in India later this year. The three-row SUV will become Kia's first strong-hybrid model for the Indian market. Bookings for the Sorento are already open ahead of its official launch. It is expected to get a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid engine and will rival premium SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron.

Eight Electrified Models Planned by 2030

Kia has already shared its plans for the future. The company aims to launch ten new models in India by 2030, with eight of them featuring some form of electrification. These will include both electric vehicles and hybrid models. Kia also expects electrified vehicles to account for around 43 percent of its total sales in India by the end of the decade.
