6 New Electric Cars Coming Soon – Tata Safari EV to Maruti YMC

Six new electric cars are expected to launch in India within the next 12 months. Tata Safari EV and MG Hector Tomahawk EV will target the three-row SUV segment. Maruti YMC and Mahindra BE 07 could offer ranges of around 500km and 650km.

India's electric car market is set for another major expansion, with six new EVs expected to launch in the next 12 months. Automakers including Tata Motors, Mahindra, JSW MG Motor, Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki are preparing new electric models across multiple segments.

From three-row SUVs and compact electric SUVs to a new electric MPV, these upcoming models are expected to give buyers more choices as EV adoption continues to grow.

1. MG Hector Tomahawk EV

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is expected to be one of the first new electric cars to arrive. The three-row SUV is scheduled to launch on August 26, 2026, and will be based on the Wuling Starlight 560. The electric SUV is expected to use a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing around 134hp and 200Nm. It is likely to get a 56.7kWh LFP battery pack, with a claimed range of around 500km. A plug-in hybrid version is also expected to join the lineup at a later stage.

2. Tata Tigor EV

Tata Motors is preparing a comprehensive update for the Tigor EV, which has been on sale since 2017. The facelift is expected to bring major visual changes, including sleeker headlamps, redesigned bumpers and a revised front grille. The dashboard could also receive significant updates. The mechanical package is expected to remain unchanged, meaning the focus of the update will largely be on styling and the cabin.

3. Tata Safari EV

The Tata Safari EV will bring an electric powertrain to Tata's flagship three-row SUV. It is expected to launch in the coming months and will compete with other large electric SUVs, including the Mahindra XEV 9S and MG Hector Tomahawk EV. The Safari EV is expected to share its battery and electric powertrain technology with the Harrier EV. It could be offered in standard-range RWD, long-range RWD and long-range AWD configurations. Depending on the variant, the electric SUV could offer a claimed range of around 600km.

4. Hyundai HE1i EV

Hyundai is also preparing a new compact electric SUV, internally known as the HE1i. It is expected to compete with the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. The new EV is expected to feature a boxy design with rugged styling elements. Hyundai's Parametric Pixel-inspired lighting, flush-fitting door handles and aerodynamic alloy wheels are expected to give it a distinctive appearance. The model is likely to be offered with two battery pack options, both using locally manufactured LFP cells supplied by Exide Energy.

5. Maruti Suzuki YMC

The Maruti Suzuki YMC is expected to be the company's next major electric launch and could arrive in India in the first half of 2027. The three-row electric MPV is expected to have an SUV-inspired design and will compete in a segment similar to the Kia Carens Clavis EV. The YMC is expected to use the same platform as the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and could also share its battery and electric powertrain technology. A claimed range of around 500km is expected. The model will give Maruti Suzuki a new entry into India's growing electric MPV segment.

6. Mahindra BE 07

The Mahindra BE 07 will be positioned between the BE 6 and XEV 9S in the company's Born Electric range. The five-seat electric SUV is expected to measure around 4.6 metres long and will take on the Tata Harrier EV. The BE 07 is likely to be offered with standard-range and extended-range RWD configurations, using battery and motor technology related to Mahindra's existing electric SUVs. With a potential range of around 650km, the BE 07 could become one of the longest-range models in Mahindra's EV lineup.
