New Bayon caught testing in Europe It is likely to get a self-charging hybrid engine Gets bigger dimensions and boxy design
We informed you earlier that Hyundai will launch the new-generation Bayon in the Indian market by festive season, around Diwali. The SUV is currently undergoing rigorous testing in India as well in Europe. This time around the new Hyundai Bayon is caught testing in Europe. In the new avatar, the SUV will undergo a complete transformation.
The new Hyundai Bayon has been spotted undergoing crucial summer testing on roads in Southern Europe. The spotted model is covered in thick cloth, but it shows the bigger body and SUV-ish profile compared to the crossover design of the older model. The SUV gets a boxy profile, with flatter front profile and roof, and split headlamps with signature LED daytime running lamps.

The spy images confirmed that the new Bayon gets front parking sensors and a radar mounted on the lower bumper for LEVEL 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). Other design elements include electrically adjustable ORVMs with integrated blinkers and camera module for 360-degree functionality, prominent roof rails, shark fin antenna, and LED tail-lights.
The existing Bayon on sale in Europe measures 4.18 meters in length. It is expected that the new model will measure around 4.2-4.3 meters in length, positioned between the Venue and Creta. The increase in size and boxier profile will result in a more spacious cabin and increased cargo volume. The next-gen Creta will grow in size and is expected to measure around 4.45-4.5 meters in length; allowing Hyundai enough space to accommodate Bayon in the midsize SUV category.

The global media reports that the new Bayon will continue to be available with gasoline engines, but with 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) technology. The report claims that the SUV will also get a self-charging hybrid (HEV) variant. This model will compete against the Toyota Yaris Cross on sale in international markets. In India, the Bayon will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Tata Curvv and lower variants of other midsize SUVs.
The India-spec Hyundai Bayon is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Creta. This engine produces 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque. The Bayon will be Hyundai’s first model measuring above 4 metres in length to offer a factory-fitted CNG powertrain. It is reportedly to get an underbody CNG tank.
The SUV is likely to be equipped with large curved dual-screen setup comprising 12.3-inch digital instrument console and 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Key features likely to include ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat, multi-coloured ambient lighting, electrically adjustable sunroof, connected car tech and premium audio system. For safety and security, the next Hyundai Bayon will have 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), a 360-degree surround view camera, 3-point seat belt, and others.
