Hyundai to launch a compact electric SUV by Diwali 2026 Next-gen Hyundai Bayon arriving before March 2027

The Korean automaker, Hyundai is preparing to launch two all-new SUVs in the Indian market before the end of this financial year, by March 2027. This Diwali, the company is likely to launch an all-new compact electric SUV based on the K1 architecture. Adding to it, the next-generation Hyundai Bayon is also heading to our market. Testing of both SUVs have already been started on the Indian roads.

Hyundai compact electric SUV

The new compact electric SUV will be locally developed for India as well as select international market. Codenamed HE1i, the new electric SUV will be a sub-4 meter SUV and will share features and platform with the soon-to-be-launched Kia Syros EV. It will directly rival the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.

The new Hyundai electric compact SUV will be manufactured at the company’s Sriperumbudur factory in Tamil Nadu. It is expected to be offered with two battery packs - 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh - both come with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The electric SUV is expected to offer a range of over 500km on a single charge. It will support up to 100 kW DC fast charging.

Hyundai Bayon

This will sit above 4 meters in length, and will be positioned between the Venue and Creta. It will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. The current looks like a jagged-up hatchback, but the next-gen model will have a taller, boxier stance, and its design will be more aligned with Hyundai’s latest “Sensuous Sportiness” language. It is expected to measure around 4.2 meters in length, as the next-gen Hyundai Creta will measure close to 4.5 meters in length.

The Bayon will be equipped with high-end comfort and convenience features. It is expected to get a large touchscreen infotainment unit, a fully digital driver’s display, connected car technology, and a LEVEL 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite featuring autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.

The Bayon will be the first Hyundai vehicle over 4 meters long to offer a factory-fitted CNG option. It will get the small dual-cylinder layout under the trunk floor to offer usable boot space. The SUV will get a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine producing 114bhp and 144 Nm of torque, paired to either a 6-speed manual or a a CVT automatic. Hyundai is also readying a new 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which could power the new Bayon crossover.
