Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe Revealed With 793 km Range

Mercedes-AMG has revealed the new GT 53 4-Door Coupe internationally. It will sit below the GT 55 and GT 63 in the electric GT lineup and become the entry-level version of the performance-focused four-door coupe.

The new GT 53 gets a 106kWh battery, dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. While it is less powerful than the higher versions, it offers the longest claimed range in the AMG GT electric lineup.

544hp Dual-Motor Setup

The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 uses a liquid-cooled 106kWh battery pack paired with two electric motors. The setup produces 544hp and 800Nm, with power sent to all four wheels through an AWD system. The car can accelerate from 0-100kph in 3.5 seconds.

For comparison, the GT 55 and GT 63 use tri-motor setups producing 816hp/1,000Nm and 1,169hp/1,200Nm, respectively. The GT 53 is therefore slower than both, but it focuses more on range and everyday usability.

793 km Claimed Range

The biggest advantage of the GT 53 is its claimed range. Mercedes-AMG says the electric coupe can travel up to 793km on a single charge, which is 103km more than the GT 55 and 107km more than the GT 63. The car uses an 800-volt electrical system and supports DC fast charging at up to 600kW. Mercedes-AMG claims that a 10-minute charging session can add up to 534km of range.

AMG Driving Experience

Despite being an EV, Mercedes-AMG has tried to retain the driving feel associated with its performance cars. The GT 53 gets simulated gear changes, with the paddle shifters designed to mimic manual gear changes rather than simply controlling regenerative braking.

The car also produces a synthetic engine sound inspired by AMG's 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine. The GT 55 and GT 63, meanwhile, use a synthetic sound inspired by a V8.

The GT 53 also comes with air suspension with adaptive damping, 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and torque vectoring. The latter can distribute power between the rear wheels to improve cornering and stability.

Active Aerodynamics

The GT 53 gets an active rear spoiler that automatically deploys at speeds above 150kph. It can also be manually activated using a button on the steering wheel. The rear diffuser has also been designed to improve airflow around the car. Mercedes-AMG says these changes help reduce air resistance and improve efficiency, particularly at highway speeds.

The front gets the familiar AMG design with a concave grille, vertical slats and star-shaped DRLs. Unlike the higher GT versions, the GT 53 does not get a full-width LED light bar. At the rear, the car gets three taillight pods on either side with illuminated three-point-star elements.

Three-Screen Interior

The cabin follows the latest Mercedes-AMG design approach with three screens integrated into the dashboard. There is a 10.2-inch digital driver's display, a 14-inch central touchscreen and another 14-inch screen for the front passenger.

The GT 53 also gets an AMG-specific three-spoke steering wheel with touch controls, physical buttons and roller controls. The cabin features different driving modes, including Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Eco, Individual and AMG-specific Sport+ settings. Other features include two wireless charging pads, panoramic glass roof and AMG-themed interior detailing.

569-Litre Combined Storage

Despite its sleek coupe design, the GT 53 offers practical storage space. The boot has a capacity of 507 litres, while the front luggage compartment adds another 62 litres of storage. This gives the electric AMG four-door coupe a total of 569 litres of luggage space.

India Launch Not Confirmed Yet

Mercedes-Benz has not announced plans to launch the AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe in India. The GT 4-Door Coupe nameplate is already available in the country with a combustion engine, with prices starting at around Rs 3.27 crore (ex-showroom).

If Mercedes-AMG eventually brings the electric GT 53 to India, it could become an interesting option for buyers looking for a high-performance luxury EV with a long driving range.
