Honda to launch new midsize SUV in 2028 New Hyundai Bayon launch by March 2027
Following the “SUV-first” strategy, both Honda Cars India and Hyundai Motor India have officially confirmed multiple new models in the Rs 15 lakh to 30 lakh price bracket. While Hyundai will introduce two new 5-seater mid-sized SUVs, Honda has announced to introduce its new SUV in the midsize category.
Both brands remain tight-lipped about these upcoming products; however, reports suggest that Hyundai will introduce a 5-seater midsized SUV by March 2027. On the flip side, Honda Cars India is likely to introduce a new 7-seater SUV in the midsize category.

Hyundai is reportedly planning to launch the next-generation Bayon in the Indian market this financial year. In the new avatar, the Hyundai Bayon will grow in size and will carry a more SUV-ish stance. If reports are to be believed, the new SUV will measure around 4.2 meters in length, and will sit right between the Hyundai Venue and next-gen Creta. For people not in the know, the next-gen Hyundai Creta will switch to a newer platform and will measure close to 4.5 meters in length.
This all-new SUV will have a taller, boxier stance, and its design will be more aligned with Hyundai’s latest “Sensuous Sportiness” language. Testing of the new Bayon has already been commenced. Spy images reveal that the new SUV will have a split-headlamp setup with “ice-cube” LED projector headlamps with a high-mounted LED daytime running lamps, 16-inch alloys, chunky body cladding, sharply raked tailgate with prominent integrated spoiler, and new connected LED tail-lights.
The new Hyundai Bayon is expected to be powered by a naturally-aspirated petrol engine along with a CNG powertrain with a dual-cylinder setup. The SUV is expected to get a 1.5L NA petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox. It will be the first Hyundai measuring above 4 meters to get a CNG powertrain. The new Hyundai SUV will be a direct rival to the Maruti Suzuki Victoris.
Honda has confirmed that it will launch a new sub-4 meter SUV and a new midsize SUV in the Indian market in 2028. Honda hasn’t reveal any information about the upcoming SUVs, but we expect the new SUV will be a 7-seater model. It is likely to be based on the new PF2 platform, which is compatible with different powertrains, including ICE, hybrid and electric.
To be positioned above the Elevate, the new Honda SUV is likely to be positioned against the likes of the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar. It will be heavily localised to achieve competitive pricing. Adding to it, the SUV will get a locally-developed hybrid powertrain. The SUV will have the next-gen hybrid engine, which will utilise the 1.5L NA Petrol engine clubbed with two electric motors and a small battery pack. Honda is claiming that the next-gen Hybrid powertrains will offer 10% more efficiency than the existing model.
