Mitsubishi Pajero officially making a comeback. New SUV expected to retain ladder-frame construction. Global debut likely later this year.
Mitsubishi has officially confirmed the return of the legendary Pajero SUV, bringing back one of the most iconic names in the off-road world. The Japanese carmaker recently teased the upcoming model and revealed parts of its future product roadmap, giving us an early look at what to expect from the next-generation Pajero.
The new Pajero is expected to debut globally later this year and will mark the beginning of a fresh chapter for the famous SUV nameplate that has built a strong reputation through its Dakar Rally success and rugged capabilities.

After ending production of the previous-generation Pajero in 2021, Mitsubishi is now bringing the SUV back as part of a wider expansion plan.
The company recently shared a teaser with the message, “The Pajero / Montero is ready to write its next chapter.”
Interestingly, Mitsubishi plans to turn Pajero into a broader SUV family instead of limiting it to a single model. This means more Pajero-branded vehicles could arrive in the future.
Unlike many iconic SUVs that have shifted towards crossover designs, the new Pajero is expected to stay true to its roots.
Reports suggest it will be based on the same ladder-frame platform as the latest Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck. This setup is expected to provide strong off-road ability, better durability and improved towing capabilities.
Mitsubishi is also likely to develop unique suspension tuning and chassis settings specifically for the Pajero to ensure it delivers a distinct driving experience.
The teaser image offers a glimpse of the SUV's front-end styling.
A connected LED daytime running light setup stretches across the front and is split at the centre by the Mitsubishi logo. The lighting signature drops vertically at the edges, where the main headlamps are expected to be positioned.
The overall silhouette visible in Mitsubishi's roadmap suggests a large and boxy SUV with upright proportions, staying faithful to the Pajero's traditional design philosophy.
While official interior images have not been revealed yet, the new Pajero is expected to feature a completely redesigned cabin.
Mitsubishi is likely to give it a dedicated dashboard layout, premium materials and advanced technology features to separate it from the Triton pickup truck.
Large infotainment screens, connected car technology, digital instrumentation and advanced safety systems are expected to be part of the package.

The company has not revealed detailed powertrain specifications, but multiple engine options are expected depending on the market.
The new Pajero could be offered with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains globally. Hybrid versions are expected to play an important role as Mitsubishi works to meet stricter emission regulations in several regions.
The availability of specific powertrains will likely vary from one market to another.
The return of the Pajero is one of the biggest announcements from Mitsubishi in recent years. With a global debut expected later this year, more information about the new Mitsubishi Pajero should be revealed in the coming months.
