Stellantis to launch 12 vehicles in India by 2030 Jeep to introduce B-segment SUV by 2028
Stellantis India has officially unveiled its roadmap for the Indian market under the FaSTLAne 2030 strategic umbrella. The company has announced a fresh 4,000 crore investment over the next three years. Stellantis has confirmed 12 upcoming vehicle rollouts across its Jeep and Citroen brands by 2030.
The upcoming 12 vehicles, comprising seven all-new models and five major mid-life updates in the country. The big news is that Jeep will have an all-new Jeep B-segment SUV (B-SUV) for the Indian market. Positioned below the Jeep Compass, this new entry-level offering will give the iconic American off-road brand its most accessible vehicle in India to date, challenging the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in the category.
Market Positioning
Jeep India’s current lineup comprising the Compass, the Meridian 3-row SUV, and the flagship Wrangler. The lack of an entry-level offering kept mass-market buyers in the Rs 10 lakh to Rs 18 lakh range out of the Jeep lineup. The upcoming Jeep B-SUV directly targets urban crossover and compact SUV buyers who prioritise rugged styling, high ground clearance and brand prestige at a competitive price point.
Key Details
The upcoming Jeep B-SUV is likely to be based on Tata's ARGOS platform that alsop underpins the Sierra. This architecture is engineered to support multiple powertrain technologies depending on market demand and regulatory standards. The SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine. Jeep could also use the 1.2L turbo petrol engine that powers the Citroen Basalt.
The company could look at self-charging hybrid options to provide low-running costs for city commuting. A pure electric derivative of the SUV could also be introduced to rival the Tata Sierra EV and Hyundai Creta EV. The SUV will continue to carry Jeep’s rugged brand identity, and the top-end variants are likely to feature an electrified rear-axle AWD setup or terrain management system.
The company could begin road testing of the upcoming B SUV in 2027-28. We expect the SUV to carry an upright, boxy SUV stance inspired by the global-spec Avenger and new Compass, squared-off wheel arches, which body cladding, X-shaped LED tail-lamp signature with high ground clearance and slim LED Matrix headlamps.
Inside the cabin, the SUV could get connected digital cockpit, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging and leatherette upholstery. The SUV is expected to get LEVEL 2 ADAS suite along with 6 standard airbags, ESP, Hill Descent Control, 360-degree parking camera and others.
Target Competitors & Expected Price Range
The Jeep B-SUV will take on the likes of the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder and others in the category. We expect the new SUV to cost somewhere around Rs 13-14 lakh to 20 lakh.
