Renault Bridger patent reveals rugged compact SUV styling. Petrol, CNG and hybrid powertrains are expected. India launch could happen before the end of next year.
Renault is preparing a brand-new compact SUV for India, and fresh details about the upcoming Renault Bridger have now surfaced online through a recently filed design patent. The new SUV is expected to sit below the Duster in Renault’s India lineup and could arrive before the end of next year.
The Bridger will target one of the busiest SUV segments in the country and is expected to rival models like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO.

The newly revealed patent images show that the Renault Bridger will have a bold and upright design unlike most compact SUVs currently on sale.
The SUV gets a boxy shape with a flat roofline, upright windscreen and squared-off proportions that give it a more rugged look. Renault appears to be focusing on a tougher SUV character instead of a smooth crossover design.
At the front, the Bridger features a wide grille with mesh detailing along with sleek headlamps that stretch into the fenders. The bumper gets thick black cladding and a silver skid plate element, adding to the SUV-like appearance.
The side profile continues the rugged theme with black body cladding around the wheel arches and lower doors. The SUV also gets blacked-out pillars and a contrasting black roof for a dual-tone effect.
The design patent also reveals stylish alloy wheels with a star-shaped pattern and dark finish.
At the rear, the Bridger gets an upright tailgate design along with a large rear glass area and blacked-out D-pillars. Overall, the SUV looks more practical and rugged compared to Renault’s current Kiger.
Reports suggest the Renault Bridger will be built on a new platform that can support petrol, CNG, hybrid and electric powertrains in the future.
Initially, the SUV is expected to launch with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine along with a turbo-petrol option. Renault may also introduce a 48V mild-hybrid setup paired with the turbo engine.
The design patent also shows a conventional fuel filler cap, indicating that petrol and CNG versions are likely to arrive first.
An electric version of the Bridger is also being discussed globally, although Renault has not officially confirmed it for India yet.

Renault is expected to position the Bridger below the upcoming next-generation Duster in India.
While the Duster will target the midsize SUV segment, the Bridger will focus on the compact SUV category where demand continues to remain strong.
The company is planning to strengthen its SUV lineup in India over the next few years, and the Bridger could become an important volume product for the brand.
The Renault Bridger is expected to make its India debut sometime before the end of next calendar year. Since the SUV is being developed for both Indian and global markets, Renault is likely to localise it heavily for competitive pricing.
