Renault to Launch Bigster 7-Seater and Bridger SUV in 2027 with Hybrid Engines
Renault Bridger launching in late 2027 7-Seater Bigster SUV arriving in early 2027
Renault is readying an aggressive product strategy for the Indian automotive market. To increase market share in both high-growth SUV segments, the French automaker is preparing to launch two new models: a 3-row C-segment SUV (Bigster or Boreal) and the sub-4 metre Bridger SUV. Both these SUVs will be arriving with string hybrid powertrains alongside conventional ICE and electric options.
Renault will launch the new Duster hybrid as its first hybrid vehicle in India this October, before Diwali 2026. The 7-seater C-SUV and the Bridger sub-4 meter SUV will be launched in the Indian market in 2027. While the C-SUV is planned to be launched in early 2027, most probably around Bharat Mobility Global Expo, the Renault Bridger SUV will be introduced in late 2027.
7-Seater Bigster C SUV
Renault will utilise its new RGMP modular architecture to introduce a larger, 3-row family SUV, inspired by the global-spec Dacia Bigster and Renault Boreal. This 3-row SUV will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus.
Localised Strong Hybrid Tech: Renault is bringing its European-spec hybrid technology to India, and the Duster will be the first model to get the same. This hybrid system will be fully localised to maintain competitive pricing. The setup combines an efficient petrol engine with dual electric motors and a self-charging battery pack, delivering exceptional fuel economy in city traffic without range anxiety.
Engine Choices: it will be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine producing 163hp, paired with a 6-speed DCT and 6-speed MT. It will also get a 1.8L strong hybrid engine, offering a combined power output of 160hp. This engine is likely to offer a fuel efficiency of around 20 kmpl.
Key Details: the new C-SUV will measure around 4.6+ meters in length, and will have an extended wheelbase of 2.74 meters. It is likely to come with 6 and 7-seat layout with the former having captain seats in the second-row. Key features could include dual digital displays, panoramic sunroof, LEVEL 2 ADAS, dual-zone climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, powered tailgate and others.
Renault Bridger: Lifestyle sub-4m SUV
Designed and engineered in India, the Renault Bridger will be a versatile sub-compact lifestyle SUV. It will bridge the gap between urban usability and rugged off-road styling cues. It will be manufactured and exported to select international markets from Renault’s Chennai based manufacturing facility. The SUV will challenge the likes of the Mahindra Vision S, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and others in the segment.
Powertrain: the Renault Bridger will be offered with multiple new powertrain options, including a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, followed by hybrid, CNG, and pure-electric derivatives. It will debut the brand’s new 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which will be a hybrid ready.
Key Details: The sub-4 meter SUV will be marketed as a lifestyle offering based on a monocoque platform. It comes with an upright, squared-off silhouette with flared wheel arches and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Despite being a sub-4 meter SUV, the Renault Bridger is claimed to be designed in a way to offer a class-leading 400-litre of boot along with generous rear knee room.
