Renault Bridger, new Kia Sonet, Vision S and Nexon are coming in 2027. New platforms, designs and more technology are expected. Hybrid and electric powertrains could be offered on some new SUVs.
India’s compact SUV segment is set for another busy year, with four new models expected to arrive in 2027. Renault, Kia, Mahindra and Tata are all preparing new or next-generation SUVs that will take on popular models such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Hyundai Venue.
The upcoming models include the Renault Bridger, next-generation Kia Sonet, Mahindra Vision S and next-generation Tata Nexon. These SUVs will bring new designs, updated platforms and, in some cases, hybrid and electric powertrain options.
The Renault Bridger will mark the brand’s return to the sub-4-metre SUV segment. The new SUV is expected to launch in India by Diwali 2027 and will be designed and developed for the Indian market.
The production version is expected to use Renault’s new R-GMP platform. Petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains are being considered, although the final engine options are yet to be confirmed. The Bridger concept had a boxy and upright design, along with around 200mm of ground clearance and a claimed 400-litre boot. The production version is expected to retain some of these design elements.

The second-generation Kia Sonet is also expected to arrive in 2027. The new SUV will get major changes underneath, with Kia expected to move it from the current K2 platform to the newer K1 architecture. The new platform should bring a more advanced electrical system, over-the-air software updates and remote diagnostics.
Kia is also expected to focus on improving rear-seat space, which could be an important upgrade over the current model. A major design change and more technology are also expected. A hybrid powertrain is reportedly being considered for the new Sonet, although it may arrive at a later stage rather than at launch.
The Mahindra Vision S is expected to become one of the first production SUVs based on the company’s new NU_IQ platform. The concept measures under four metres in length and has a 2,665mm wheelbase. Its upright design gives it a more rugged appearance, similar to the larger SUVs in Mahindra’s range.
The NU_IQ platform can support petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains, along with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive layouts. Mahindra has not yet confirmed the powertrain for the production version. The Vision S could also share some engine technology with the XUV 3XO.

The next-generation Tata Nexon is also expected to arrive in 2027, around a decade after the original model was launched. The new Nexon is expected to get a major design update along with changes to its platform. Petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel engines could continue in some form, although Tata has not confirmed the final powertrain details.
The new Nexon will continue to compete in one of India’s most crowded SUV segments, facing rivals such as the Brezza, Venue, Sonet, XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq.
